Night 1 💥 celebrating authenticity, experimentation, and how the rings become like little portraits of the people who make them 🙌🏼🖤🐍☮️🌙💫 by @four.aught.metalsmiths

25 years ago and I remember every minute of that day. Surreal and terrifying are both understatements. And then a few days later, I remember wandering around the ash of lower Manhattan. Like a zombie amongst zombies. The fear and mourning still so fresh. My camera at the time saved pictures on floppy disks (holy shit I can’t believe that was even a thing!) and I was hesitant to take any photos. Ground zero was so grim and chaotic, that it felt more exploitative than documentarian at the time. But somewhere now, in a box stored away, is an obsolete floppy disk with my pics from that day. Most of them are of tireless firemen, Saint Paul’s Chapel and rubble covered in white ash. And one photo is of a business man in a suit, rushing down Fulton Street wearing a mask and garbage bags tied around his probably polished work shoes.
They say “never forget” but really it’s impossible to forget. It’s also impossible to forget the indomitable spirit that held NYC together in the days, months and even years that followed. It’s New York’s truest self, and as a native New Yorker I carry that with me forever. My photos (that I thought would be important to look back on one day) may only ever live in my memory and on that stupid floppy disk. So on this day of reflection, I share pics from May 21, 2019 when we spent the day in lower Manhattan with our good friend @keplermatrick and the twinkies ate fries at One World Trade Center and saw the Statue of Liberty for the first time.
