“It is with so much pleasure and excitement that I introduce Byrdie’s first-ever Music Issue, featuring the one and only @KimPetras. She’s always existed at the intersection of pop, identity, and internet culture in a way that mirrors exactly how we actually consume music: visually, intimately, and in real time.Inspired by #KimPetras’s own “Detour,” the name of her forthcoming album and an apt descriptor for what it took to release it, our three distinct covers celebrate what our senior news editor, @bellacacciatore_, describes as a “totally new sound that perfectly reflects the burn-it-all-down emotions she was feeling leading up to leaving her label,” as well as her “most personal, exciting, and forward-thinking work yet.” Petras is dropping this album as an independent artist and, for the first time, is credited as a producer.
