Our June issue is out. What happens when ideologies that erase human differences gain tools powerful enough to enforce them? And what if today's anti-Western coalition is not an alliance of opposites, but different expressions of the same revolutionary grammar—one rooted in the very people it seeks to destroy? As Alana Newhouse argues in her editor's letter, and Alexander Gendler explores in his cover story, our latest issue examines communism, its convergence with Islamism and technology, and the ways ideas born from the Jewish experience are eventually turned against the Jews themselves.Plus: Jacob Siegel on the internet's enlightenment problem, Matthew Fishbane on Punta del Este, South America's summer playground for elites, Harry Stein on the brief life of the Paris Metro, and much more. Euphoria’s creator Sam Levinson spoke to us while putting the final touches on the show's series finale. From drugs, God, what he thinks of those who hate him, and why some endings were always inevitable, Levinson doesn't flinch."There's plenty of nihilism in the world. I see Euphoria largely as a rejection of it," Levinson told Tablet. On the other side of a brutal culture war, the man behind @hbo's flagship show stands his ground and explains his scrutinized creative decisions. Is Levinson truly done with @euphoria, what's next, Sydney Sweeney on filming Cassie's final arc, and more. Cruelty can be fun. Especially when it offers belonging, certainty, and a sense of purpose. From medieval religious spectacles to Nazi rallies to college quads after Oct. 7, antisemitism has repeatedly offered its adherents something far more psychologically rewarding than mere hatred. The antisemite is often having a really good time.Head to link in bio to read. by @tabletmag

By 1945, Zionism had become the near-unanimous position among Holocaust survivors, including ex-Bundists included, who fervently advocated for the British to open up the gates to Palestine. As many as 97% demanded to go to Palestine, and only Palestine, and when asked to list a second choice, thousands wrote, “crematoria.” So why, now, are anti-Zionist Jews trying to revive a movement that died, in the admission of its own members, in the most tragic way possible?Link in bio to read @rootsmetals's full piece. by @tabletmag

Gloria Greenfield was one of the leading feminist figures of the 1980s. She left the movement after confronting antisemitism from fellow activists and writers she once worked alongside.Today, Greenfield is a documentary filmmaker focused on antisemitism, anti-Zionism, and the ideological currents she believes led the left to abandon Jews decades ago.Link in bio to read. by @tabletmag

Russia has spent two decades quietly accumulating gold, mining it, buying it, and using it to insulate its economy from Western sanctions. While the world fixated on crypto and SWIFT bans, Moscow built one of the largest gold reserves in history, then used it to keep trading with China, India, Iran, and the UAE, finance drone purchases with bullion, and briefly peg the ruble to gold when the invasion of Ukraine sent its currency into freefall.Frederick Kaufman traces how gold moves, from Siberian open-pit mines to Kazakh shell companies to a buzzer-locked building on 47th Street in Manhattan, and asks whether the dollar's long run as the world's reserve currency is quietly, unhurriedly coming to an end.Head to link in bio to read.Illustration by Michael Glenwood. by @tabletmag

Reports say Julian Casablancas and Nick Valensi haven’t been on speaking terms since November, though Valensi still performed with The Strokes in April, during which the band denounced war against Iran and Palestinians.Though reasoning remains unclear, after Casablancas said that “American Zionists get the benefits of white privileged people but talk like they are Black people during slavery” on @subwaytakes, the guitarist is taking a “temporary break” from touring with the band.“It’s been going on for millennia,” Valensi told Tablet in 2018 of the antisemitism he’s experienced. He also spoke of his family’s Judaism, his North African father, and the Sephardic food he remembers from his childhood.Read our conversation with Valensi at link in bio. by @tabletmag

Dan Goldman represents a version of liberal Jewish politics that may no longer have a place in New York.As Zohran Mamdani reshapes the city’s political center of gravity, Goldman’s struggle against Brad Lander reveals a deeper collapse: the disintegration of the old, pro-Jewish Democratic establishment. Can a politician still win in New York when being pro-Israel has become a liability? Many progressive rabbis have loudly condemned Israel, settlers, and Jewish institutions in the name of justice. But too many stayed quiet about Hamas after Oct. 7, Hezbollah rockets targeting civilians, and anti-Zionist extremism spreading across the left. The issue isn’t criticism of Israel, @romemunewyork's Rabbi David Ingber argues. It’s the double standard. Jewish tradition demands moral consistency, not selective outrage shaped by political coalitions.Link in bio to read. by @tabletmag

Modern warfare is gradually removing pilots from combat in favor of drones and cost efficiency. But when the fighter pilot is gone, we no longer will have a shared figure who reflects the best version of ourselves.A former Air Force pilot trainee traces the rise, and slow death, of the fighter-pilot myth.
