As the Indian rupee continues to face pressure against the US dollar, Dr Shamika Ravi, Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, has said that the currency touching 100 against the dollar should not be treated as a crisis point.Speaking on a podcast, Ravi said, “So what if the rupee touches 100 to a dollar? It’s just a number,” while arguing that India’s economy is currently in a phase of sustained high growth. Her remark came at a time when the rupee has been hovering near record lows, triggering concerns over imports, inflation, fuel prices, and the broader cost of living. The Indian currency closed at 95.7850 against the US dollar on Thursday, weaker than the previous day’s close of 95.7050, according to Reuters. The rupee has remained under pressure due to weaker Asian currencies, importer hedging, high crude oil prices, capital outflows, and uncertainty ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s policy review.Ravi said inflation would become a bigger problem if the RBI or the government tried too hard to maintain the value of the rupee artificially. Her argument suggested that defending a specific exchange-rate level could cost the country more than allowing the currency to adjust naturally according to market conditions. The rupee has already touched record lows this year, briefly sliding past 96 against the dollar in May as oil prices and geopolitical tensions added pressure on India, one of the world’s largest crude oil importers. A weaker rupee makes imports costlier, especially oil, electronics, and other dollar-priced goods, but it can also benefit exporters and remittance earners. The 100-mark has become a psychological level for markets and the public, but economists have argued that the exchange rate alone does not define the strength of an economy. The real concern is whether depreciation leads to sustained inflation, higher import bills, and pressure on household budgets. For now, Ravi’s statement has sparked debate because while economists may see 100 as just another number, for ordinary Indians, a weaker rupee often shows up in everyday costs. by @thetatvaindia

Titan just secured a Guinness World Record for the deepest underwater product photoshoot. The brand took its flagship Zero Hour Professional Diver’s Automatic 500M watch 52.1 metres below the surface of the Indian Ocean. To pull off the dive, a crew of five technical divers descended to 50 metres in just seven minutes. Fighting crushing ocean pressure and rough currents, the team operated heavy camera gear within a tight 20-minute window.Instead of a standard studio shoot, Titan used the event as a live field test for the ISO 6425-compliant and PADI-validated watch. The company is releasing only 1,000 limited-edition pieces of the model used during the record-breaking dive.Designed for tough environments, the Zero Hour collection draws its name from the decisive moment before action begins, when precision and reliability matter the most. The record attempt was meant to prove that promise in real-world conditions, not just inside a controlled testing setup. The watch used for the shoot was the Titan Zero Hour 500M Professional Diver’s Automatic, limited to just 1,000 numbered pieces. The model has already received ISO 6425 compliance and validation from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), both seen as important benchmarks in the global diving watch space. The wider Zero Hour collection includes 12 timepieces, with water-resistance ratings ranging from 100 metres to 500 metres.Prices range from Rs 15,795 to Rs 77,995, and the collection is available at Titan World stores, premium watch retailers, large-format outlets, and online platforms. For Titan, the record goes beyond depth. It signals the company’s push to place Indian watchmaking on a global stage long dominated by established international performance-watch brands. And while most watches spend their lives ticking above sea level, this one has already made history by staying steady where the pressure is anything but. by @thetatvaindia

The world’s first floating city could soon move from concept to construction, with renewed plans for the massive Freedom Ship, a $16 billion vessel designed to let people live, work, study, and travel across the globe without being tied to land. The proposed ship is being described less as a cruise liner and more as a complete floating metropolis. It is expected to be around 1.6 km long and built across nearly 30 decks, making it several times larger than the world’s biggest cruise ships.According to reports, Freedom Ship is being planned to house nearly 80,000 people, including around 50,000 permanent residents, 20,000 crew members, and thousands of hotel guests and daily visitors. The vessel is expected to include almost everything a regular city would need: schools, offices, banks, residential neighbourhoods, farms, shops, restaurants, parks, a hospital, museums, a convention centre, and even a 15,000-seat sports stadium.Since the ship would be too large to dock at regular ports, it is expected to remain mainly in international waters. Residents and visitors would reportedly travel to and from land using ferries, while a tram system and long walkways would connect different areas onboard. The floating city is being planned as a constantly moving home, travelling around the world instead of staying in one place. Reports suggest it could complete a global route every two to three years, giving residents the experience of living in a city that changes its surroundings over time. The idea of Freedom Ship was first developed in the 1990s but struggled to move forward because of the huge cost and engineering challenges involved. The project has now returned with fresh attention under Freedom Cruise Line International. by @thetatvaindia

While social media is busy debating whether all Indians get a bad reputation abroad due to the uncivilized behaviour of some, a Swiss hotel’s message to Indian guests seems to suggest that the answer is ‘yes’.Indian billionaire Harsh Goenka shared a picture of a notice displayed specifically for Indian guests at Hotel Arc-En-Ciel in Gstaad, Switzerland. The notice, addressed to “Dear guests from India”, laid out a series of instructions covering everything from breakfast etiquette and restaurant behaviour to noise levels in hotel corridors and balconies.“Everything you will find on the buffet is freshly prepared and comes from local producers. Please do not take anything with you, the food is for breakfast only,” the notice read, adding that guests could order a paid lunch bag instead. The hotel also urged guests to use only the serving cutlery provided at the buffet and reminded them that other visitors wanted “an appetizing buffet” as well.“There are other guests from all over the world in the hotel. They also appreciate the peace and quiet and therefore we ask you to be quiet in the corridor and not speak too loud on the balcony,” said Hotel Arc-En-Ciel in Gstaad.Sharing the image on X, Goenka said he had personally come across the notice and was shocked by it.“A Swiss hotel once displayed a list of special rules exclusively for Indian guests which I personally saw and was appalled,” he wrote. He added that he had come across various videos of Indians dancing in public abroad and turning quiet spots into picnics — all actions that annoy others.Referring to viral videos that frequently circulate online, Goenka wrote: “Today, videos of garba in restaurants, loud conversations in airports, and turning aircraft cabins into picnic spots keep doing the rounds.”He also recalled an incident in Davos involving an Indian businessman who allegedly blasted Punjabi music in a club loud enough for the town to hear, describing it as “soft power” despite irritating others. by @thetatvaindia

Kuwait has released surveillance footage showing the moment when an Iranian drone struck Terminal 1 at Kuwait International Airport. One person, an Indian national, was killed in the attack that also injured dozens of others and caused significant damage to Kuwait’s aviation infrastructure. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has denied targeting the Kuwait airport, claiming that damage was caused by a malfunctioning US-made Patriot missile that fell after failing to intercept Iranian missiles. The footage of the strike has been published by Kuwait’s General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on X, showing the first moments of a deadly attack and the aftermath of what authorities called a “brutal Iranian aggression”. The clip shows part of the terminal’s roof collapsing after the projectile hits the building. “The first moments of the brutal Iranian aggression via drones, which Terminal 1 (T1) of Kuwait International Airport was subjected to on 3 June 2026, causing loss of life, severe human injuries, and extensive material damage,” the post accompanying the video read. “The first moments following the brutal Iranian drone attack on Terminal 1 (T1) at Kuwait International Airport on 3 June 2026, which resulted in loss of life, serious injuries, and extensive material damage.”Iranian drones heavily damaged a passenger terminal at Kuwait’s main airport on Wednesday, killing one person, wounding at least 63 other people, and briefly closing the airfield. It was the latest in back-and-forth attacks by Iran and the US that tested a fragile ceasefire.India’s foreign ministry confirmed that one of its nationals was killed and several others were wounded in the airport strike. The Indian Embassy in Kuwait has said that the mission was “closely coordinating” with Kuwaiti authorities to render all possible support and assistance to the bereaved family in India and those who were injured in the attack. by @thetatvaindia

In its first-ever press conference, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Wednesday, June 3, said it was ready for a dialogue with both the government and the Opposition over its demands, even as it prepared for a protest in the national capital later this week demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET and CBSE fiasco. At the Constitution Club of India in Delhi, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das, an independent journalist, dismissed the government’s transfer of CBSE chairperson Rahul Singh and secretary Himanshu Gupta on Tuesday as an “eyewash”.The party appealed to young people from across the country to participate in the proposed protest.“We have given an open call. Anybody can join us without a party banner. We are ready to have a dialogue with everybody, be it those in power or the Opposition,” Das said, referring to CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke’s call for a protest on June 6.“We are demanding accountability in the system. We have been demanding the resignation of the education minister, but no action has been taken against him to date. The transfers are being projected as action. It’s not. There’s a rot in the system,” Das added. On May 22, the Delhi High Court issued Das a notice alongside AAP leader Gopal Rai on a plea seeking contempt proceedings against them over an alleged “orchestrated social media campaign” against Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, who recently withdrew from hearing the Delhi excise case.Das said that upon landing in Delhi at 8 am on June 6, Dipke, who is pursuing higher education in the US, will head to Delhi’s Parliament Street Police Station to seek permission for the proposed demonstration at Jantar Mantar.Dipke, who served as a core member of the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) social media team in the past, has announced that climate activist Sonam Wangchuk will also join him at the protest. by @thetatvaindia

As the countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup enters its final stretch, participating nations are unveiling their squads for football’s biggest spectacle. While India will not be among the teams competing in the tournament across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the country will still have a presence on the global stage through two players of Indian origin set to feature in the competition. For decades, Indian football fans have dreamed of seeing the tricolour represented at a FIFA World Cup. While that milestone remains elusive, two footballers with Indian roots are now preparing to share the stage with some of the sport’s biggest names, including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe. One of them is 19-year-old Tahsin Mohammed Jamshid, who has earned a place in Qatar’s 26-man World Cup squad. His selection is historic, as he is set to become the first Malayali to be named in a FIFA World Cup squad.Born and raised in Doha to parents from Kerala, Tahsin is an Indian citizen as well as holds a Qatari mission passport—a special document that allows foreign-born athletes to represent Qatar in international competitions, according to a report by The Times of India. His father, Jamshid Thachankandy, could not hide his pride while speaking to TOI. “This is such a joyous moment for me personally. To see my son achieve the heights I dreamt of at his age is truly remarkable,” he said.Football runs in the family. Jamshid represented Kerala’s sub-junior team in 1985. Originally from Thalassery, he later moved to Qatar along with his wife, Shaima, who is from Valapattanam in Kannur district, in search of better opportunities.Tahsin’s football journey gathered momentum through Qatar’s renowned Aspire Football Academy. He first made headlines after breaking into Qatar’s Under-16 national side in 2021 and subsequently progressed through the country’s youth ranks. His performances earned him a move to Al Duhail, one of the leading clubs in the Qatar Stars League. by @thetatvaindia

Senior Karnataka Congress leader D K Shivakumar, popularly known as DKS, has become Karnataka’s new Chief Minister, making him the country’s richest CM by declared assets.According to his 2023 Assembly election affidavit, the combined assets of Shivakumar and his dependents stood at ₹1,413.78 crore. This marked a sharp rise from ₹840.08 crore declared by him during the 2018 Karnataka Assembly elections. With this, Shivakumar has overtaken Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who was earlier reported to be India’s wealthiest Chief Minister with declared family assets of over ₹931 crore, according to an ADR report.Shivakumar’s brother and former MP D K Suresh had also declared assets worth around ₹593 crore in his affidavit for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Congress leader’s wealth has often become a political flashpoint in Karnataka. His opponents, including JD(S) leader and Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy, have repeatedly questioned the source of his assets.Over the years, Shivakumar has faced multiple allegations linked to misuse of office, money laundering, tax evasion, and accumulation of assets allegedly disproportionate to his known sources of income. While some cases against him have either been closed or quashed, others continue to remain pending before courts. In 2024, the Supreme Court refused to quash a CBI disproportionate assets case against him.Shivakumar, one of the Congress’s most powerful leaders in Karnataka, has long been seen as the party’s key troubleshooter in the state. His elevation to the Chief Minister’s post marks a major political shift in Karnataka and comes after months of speculation over the Congress leadership arrangement in the state. by @thetatvaindia

At least 21 people were killed and more than 40 others were rescued after a massive fire broke out at a hotel in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar, on Wednesday morning, officials said. Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa joins a pretty exclusive list of players after his latest win over the legendary Magnus Carlsen in the eighth round of Norway Chess on Wednesday, June 3.After taking down Carlsen with white in the third round back on May 27, the 20-year-old from Chennai completed the stunning double by repeating the feat with the black pieces. It must be noted that Praggnanandhaa had also beaten Carlsen in the same tournament back in the 2024 edition as well. This is reportedly the first time in the last 19 years of classical chess, that a player has managed to get the better of the Norwegian great twice in the same tournament. The last person to do so was none other than the Indian legend himself, Vishwanathan Anand. He beat Carlsen twice at the Linares International Chess Tournament back in 2007.Despite the magnitude of the victory, the youngster is refusing to buy into the surrounding hysteria. Instead, his focus remains entirely on the bigger picture of the tournament.“More than beating Magnus, I think winning a game in this tournament is more important at this stage. So I’m happy that I managed to do that,” Praggnanandhaa told ChessBase India after the match. When speaking about Carlsen, the Indian prodigy noted that despite coming out on top, the Norwegian was never far off. He acknowledged the legend’s immense defensive skill, admitting that Carlsen kept finding the right moves even under intense pressure.📹: @chessbaseindia and @norway_chess by @thetatvaindia
