POSTS STORIES REELS

My debut picture book ‘A House Made Of Books’ is officially in bookshops today. Wow!!

It’s a story about community, social connection, and the power of books. I wrote the first draft when I was a student. I was a bit lost at the time, but was slowly starting to find myself again in the things around me; books and my creative community.

My story is about a boy called Simon who loves books. He loves them so much that he decides to build a house made of books. He builds the walls using bricks, and each brick is a book. When neighbours and friends pop round asking to borrow a book, Simon is more than happy to help. But who will help Simon when his house made of books comes tumbling down?

From university project to published book, working on this has been incredible and life changing. I’ve learnt so much and have been very lucky to work alongside the terrific team @ladybirdbooks. Thank you so much to my editor @franceselks and designer @sally_mullaney, who are both super and believed in my book from day one. I’m so proud of what we’ve created.

I also want to shout out my tutors at Goldsmiths (@childrensillustrationgold ) for inspiring the book in its earliest days. It wouldn’t be here without you! @bruceingman @lizzy_stewart @jessicaspanyol @alexis_deacon by @frankiedraws__

I got a little carried away…!

Here is a miniature of Simon and his cat, made from clay. And, of course, their house made of books! Made from real teeny tiny books! Only joking, it’s foam board painted with acrylic. 🌳🌲🏡📚

7 weeks until launch day! Eeeeee by @frankiedraws__

Thanks so much to all who came down to help me launch ‘A House Made Of Books’ in Melbourne last weekend! I couldn’t have asked for a better crowd. I just about managed to hold it together but it was touch and go 🥲 It was also the first time seeing my book in the wild, among other gorgeous new releases by legendary creatives…Another ‘pinch me’ moment.

Thanks to @readingskids for hosting and to the team’s help on the day and in the run-up to the event. You guys are great. 🌟 by @frankiedraws__

2.5 weeks in and around Garramilla (Darwin) and Rubibi (Broome), where the dirt is orange, rocks are millions of years old, crocs own the water, and frogs live in toilets!!! Feeling very inspired by the colours/textures/creatures/space and not least by artwork and storytelling I came across by indigenous artists at galleries and local bookshops. Would highly recommend @magabalabooks for anyone visiting this part of the world. by @frankiedraws__
