This was not on my bingo card for this year 😅 🍎 Last weekend I was asked to dress up as Snow White and ride on the back of a 1964 MG for the celebration of the 100th Birthday of the Shakespeare Bridge in the Franklin Hills/Los Feliz neighborhood! 🎂🎉 This was such a spur of the moment thing and I am so grateful to have done it and to have experienced a beautiful community coming together for their neighborhood history ❤️ Thank you for making such a wonderful event possible @franklinhills 🙌 by @franklinhills
Franklin Hills (& beyond), you really showed up! We came together yesterday to celebrate 100 years of the Shakespeare Bridge & what a day it was! From the parade winding through our neighborhood streets to the celebration beneath the bridge, we saw generations of Angelenos, longtime neighbors, new friends, families, artists, musicians, local businesses and community organizations come together for something truly special. We had vintage cars, costumes, music, dancing, familiar faces, plenty of new ones and a whole lot of neighborhood pride. Even our commemorative merch sold out! To everyone who joined the parade, performed, volunteered, donated, sponsored, organized, created, cheered us on or simply came out to celebrate - THANK YOU. What began as an idea among a small group of neighbors grew into something far bigger than we could have imagined! We’re enormously proud of what our community accomplished together. The Shakespeare Bridge has connected our neighborhoods for 100 years. Yesterday was a wonderful reminder of the people & connections that make this place so special. We’ve got many more photos, stories and thank-yous to share in the days ahead. For now, we’re still taking it all in. With love & gratitude, Your Franklin Hills Residents Association ♥️ by @franklinhills
Happy 100th birthday to the Shakespeare Bridge! 🎉 For a full century, this beloved bridge has been one of Franklin Hills’ most recognizable landmarks. Officially known as the Franklin Avenue Bridge, its Gothic towers — reminiscent of Elizabethan England — inspired locals to nickname it the Shakespeare Bridge, and the name stuck! Much like the Bard himself, the Shakespeare Bridge has quite a story to tell. When it was built in 1926, the bridge initially had its critics, and the LA Times even called it “atrocious.” By 1974, attitudes had changed, and the bridge was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. After it was badly damaged in the Northridge earthquake, the bridge underwent a historic restoration, and today it stands as one of the City’s most cherished treasures. I loved joining our neighbors for this weekend’s centennial block party to celebrate this incredible milestone and present a City Council resolution recognizing the Shakespeare Bridge as one of the defining landmarks of the City of Los Angeles. A huge thank-you to the Franklin Hills Residents Association and all the wonderful neighbors who helped bring this celebration to life! Here’s to 100 years of history, a neighborhood full of character, and many more years of bringing our community together! by @franklinhills
TOMORROW! We’re ready to celebrate 100 years of the Shakespeare Bridge with our neighbors! For all the need-to-know details, check out our pinned post. We’ll do our best to answer last-minute questions via DM, or find one of our team members in the green EVENT STAFF T-shirts tomorrow. And a special thank you to local artist Ben Kendall, whose beautiful “Bridge on a Red Sky” captures a little of the magic of our neighborhood. We picked up the prints today, just in time for the big celebration! We can’t wait to celebrate with you, Franklin Hills! ❤️ by @franklinhills
