Tasmania’s oldest and most experienced freediving training organidation, and Tassie’s community centre for freediving and spearfishing.

POSTS STORIES REELS

One of the hardest parts of getting into freediving is finding people to dive with.

It’s essential though. That’s why I started Freedive Tasmania.

Today, we have a community of nearly 1,000 trained freedivers. And when you complete a course with us, you can keep joining our theory sessions, pool training and ocean dives for free.

So you’re not left to figure it all out on your own. You can keep practising, meet dive buddies and explore Tasmania’s underwater world together.

Want to learn to freedive? Check out our courses via the link in our bio. 🤿

Discover Freediving Courses (one day intro):

Please listen to my story. This is a major part of why I became Tasmania’s only freediving instructor, because I needed someone, and there was no one in the whole state.
Since then, I have told this story in every single course I have taught since I started teaching (although it’s a little different telling it to the internet at large).
Shallow water blackout is an almost entirely preventable issue, and rescues are so effective- IF YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO! But for people who don’t know freediving, it’s the first fear they have.

Kaeo has recently shared his blackout story, not to scare anyone, but to show how quickly things can change when you push past your limits.

Curious about Freediving, safety or something you heard in Kaeo’s story?

Send him a DM or comment below anytime. No pressure, no such thing as a silly question, just honest guidance.

Not every freedive tour you see a crayfish moulting!
Story:
At our local favourite giant kelp forest, I spotted a crayfish that looked a little off. I don’t hunt these personally but I went down to check it out and it let me pick it up, and I took it to the surface gently. Within two minutes it had completely moulted, leaving me with its new pristine shell.

Very lucky to share this with @curtistredway @_rheif @oceanbrodie @deepsensationsfreediving during their visit to Tasmania!

Oscar is very fresh to freediving, having made huge improvements during his PADI Freediver course. Over a few attempts, he performed a deep water blackout rescue.
Despite Oscar lacking experience, he’s a great buddy because he has his EYES ON YOU and he KNOWS WHAT TO DO! You should be able to say the same about your buddy too.

The weight of the water isn’t heavy down here.

It’s calming, like the ocean is giving you a gentle hug.

We'd love you to join us on our next venture below the surface, learn more here 👇

Stirring up sand and silt can make certain species, like Jack Mackerel, Australian Salmon (pictured here) and Silver Trevally, curious and interested in what’s going on.

Cracking open sea urchins can have a similar effect. The smell and bits of food released into the water can attract fish looking for an easy feed. 🐟

Sometimes, being a little less stealthy is exactly what gets the action happening.

The ocean doesn’t always reward silence. Sometimes, you’ve just got to make a mess. 🤿

Have you ever tried this? 👇

Kelp is thicccccc this time of year...
This dive yesterday in the rain in the Tinderbox Marine Reserve really showing how well the kelp is doing.

Sadly, we are expecting the kelp- all kelp, but giant kelp in particular- to have a hard time this summer with the heat. We'll keep diving this area and we'll see the difference as it changes.
