This is a celebration post! Over 400 copies yall! We are incredibly proud to be a Black led and founded organization, that has now shared more than 400 copies of our children’s book celebrating local black history. We self- published this book with a grant from the @thefundforsantabarbara because we knew we could not wait on other folks to tell the full stories of Black people in the central coast. Not as Black people continue to be displaced. not as Black people’s contributions continue to be minimized.
not as black neighborhoods continue to be renamed while its people and cultures are disappeared.

So thank you our community for donating, sharing, and loving on our little book 400 times 😭 in less than 6 months.

we are already working on our next project and are incredibly grateful to the Santa Barbara Unified School District and Ethnic Studies for sharing copies of our book with local students.

If you are wanting to donate or share a book with a local school or student DM or follow the links to order in our bio ✨✨

Big congrats to the entire team. Illustrator @studio.iman_ author @simoneakila editor Dr Michelle Petty, Jazmyn H for writing the glossary with support from Nyela N and @freschevents for managing this project to make sure we delivered on time and @mammalsbabble for the map 🙌🏾

It’s always Black history month around here yall

But this month especially
As the disappearing, erasing, and displacing of our families , and those of our indigenous Latinx kin, continues

We will continue to tell the truth in public

You can view and walk through our exhibition “For the Love of Our People” on display now at the central branch of the Santa Barbara Public Library in partnership with @sbccumoja

Leila thank you so much for inviting us to share. We appreciate it truly 💕

Researched by @freschevents and @justbeingkrys and HJSB staff over years and years

Gratitude to UCSB special collections and our queen angel Sojourner 🕊️🕊️
