Please join us October 1st for the first POOL pop-up exhibition. The theme is the same as the collective:

As a women’s collective, we POOL labor, resources, and space in order to support multidisciplinary artists. Located a stone’s throw from the East River, the POOL reflects a desire for connectivity, possibility, and visibility for artists in Brooklyn and beyond. The POOL plunges us into conversation, exchange, and play through happenings, gatherings, and pop-up exhibitions. The POOL is a site of convergence. It is formed by accumulation. It deepens through contribution.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Flowers say possibilities!
Flowers say community!
Flowers say futures!

Thank you @Prattfolio for this lovely article about the Cross-Disciplinary Studio “Symbiotic Futures” that @graciasgreis and I created in the MFA ComD department, now in its 4th year, where students explore ecology as a philosophical mindset to inform design methodologies and a practice of care for the more-than-human world.

Thrilled to share Futurescape — my first co-curated exhibition alongside Professor Jean Brennan @jeanmariebrennan I’m incredibly grateful for this collaboration; thank you Jean, for your trust and for working with me to bring this vision to life. Huge thanks as well to @eric_otoole_ for your constant support and all the invaluable tips and tricks on installation!

Futurescape was a multi-sensory exhibition and book launch that explored the speculative potential of climate-resilient plants through natural dye, scent, and culinary artifacts. Developed in conjunction with the publication Recipes for a Warmer World: Cooking up Plants of the Futurescape as Colors, Scents, and Foods (FRUIT&ROT, 2024), the project invites visitors to experience the sensory and cultural dimensions of plants likely to thrive under future climate conditions.

The exhibition featured natural dyes, chromatographies, and food-based recipes from seven selected plant species, accompanied by research artifacts and video interviews that document both the scientific and creative processes behind the work.

The 146-page risograph-printed book includes essays by Pratt faculty Jean Brennan, Cindie Kehlet, Audrey L.M. Lindsey, and herbalist Sarah Elisabeth, covering topics such as ethnobotany, the chemistry of color, the colonization of pokeweed, and a speculative hike along the Appalachian Trail.

Book design by Pratt GradComD alum @janneaneb and @jeanmariebrennan . Printed by Lucky Risograph and Conveyor Studio. Exhibition co-curated with @jeanmariebrennan Thank you all! 🌟🌱 by @fruit_and_rot

Thanks for coming out to the show! I had so much fun that in my mind it went by as quickly as the posted stop motion;)

If you haven’t had a chance yet, please stop by. DM me if you’ll be around Tuesday or Wednesday and I’ll try to meet you. Otherwise the gallery will be open 10am til 5pm 4/14, 4/15, and 4/16.

Excited to bring all the research, writing and design together in one space for this short exhibit! Opening 4-6pm tomorrow in the Juliana Curran Terian Design Gallery (School of Design, Steuben, 2nd fl). Closes next Thursday 4/17. Catch it while you can;)

As a cross-disciplinary project, ‘Recipes for a Warmer World’ includes 4 essays to frame the DIY making and instructional initiative of the book. These are—an essay on ethnobotany, one on the chemistry of color, the colonization of pokeweed, and a speculative hike along the Appalachian Trail. Essays are written by Pratt faculty—artist/designer Jean Brennan, chemist Cindie Kehlet, environmental scientist, Audrey L.M. Lindsey—and herbalist, Sarah Elisabeth (Director of A Farm for All!).

The book was designed by Pratt GradComD alum @janneaneb & @jeanmariebrennan, and printed by Lucky Risograph and Conveyor Studio. Exhibit co-curated with @yasmeenabdal. With much gratitude to Yasmeen, Nero, @sinceyoulastsawme & @eric_otoole_ for their help installing the show!!
