Rachel Rossin (2009 BFA, Studio Art) was selected as the Inaugural Artist-in-Residence (August–December 2026) at Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI) LAB! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Rossin identifies time, which is the essence of the moving image, as a key focus of her practice spanning painting, virtual reality, and immersive installation. Her work at the residency focuses on spatial computing, examining the slippage between virtual and physical space to build hybrid sites for escape and reflection. In her own words, Rossin explains: “I’m thinking about perception, embodiment, and how spatial computing can create experiences that engage people on neurological, conceptual, and emotional levels. There’s so much potential there to move beyond spectacle and create work that’s genuinely rigorous and meaningful.” This framing aligns directly with MoMI LAB’s goals: not technology as novelty, but as a tool for deeper engagement and public understanding. On October 15, MoMI Curator of Science & Technology Sonia Epstein engaged MoMI LAB inaugural artist-in-residence Rachel Rossin in a conversation exploring Rossin’s work, which uses her own brain data, and her collaboration with Yale’s Wu Tsai Institute. Drawing on brain imaging, neuroscience, and emerging interfaces, the program examines how artists are using new tools to visualize thought, expand perception, and imagine new forms of creative expression. Rossin debuted new EEG tools, spoke about why she is doing this work, and discussed the role of art as a neurobiological antidote to our vertiginous, technologically mediated present.  @fsuart by @fsuart
Alum Spotlight: Patte Loper (1990, FSU Art)! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Patte Loper’s exhibition, “Laboratory for Other Worlds,” is showing at the NYU Gallatin WetLab: Living Laboratory and Teaching Gallery. “Laboratory for Other Worlds is an exhibition and book project that responds to damaged landscapes by constructing spaces of refuge—incomplete yet insistent acts of preservation, witnessing, and re-enchantment within worn-out worlds. Conceived by interdisciplinary artist Patte Loper, the laboratory began as a way to reflect and communicate on research on variable sea level rise in the Northeastern United States; it has become a larger project seeking to make climate science accessible through immersive installation. This effort is situated in the Environmental Humanities, a movement that combines art, philosophy, Indigenous knowledge, and science to challenge human-centered cultural and intellectual frameworks.” Laboratory for Other Worlds opened September 24th, 2026, at 20A Nolan Park, Governors Island. It is open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, 10am-4pm. More at https://wp.nyu.edu/gallatinwetlab/laboratory-for-other-worlds/ Congratulations, Patte! @fsuart by @fsuart

Fall 2026 | ART4928C: Soft Sculpture I w/ Tenee’ Hart! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Project(s): Me, My Mask, & I + Art & Sole Students: Mayaluna Castellanos Libby Couch Lilia Ebert Audrey Harlacher Destiny Jacobs Hadleigh Kreger Betty Leuthold Amanda Lyon Armando Morales Julia Stephens Brendon Wade In their recent projects, Me, My Mask, & I and Art & Sole, Soft Sculpture I students explored the body as both a site and a vessel for creative expression. Beginning with familiar, functional objects - a face mask and a pair of shoes - students were challenged to move beyond utility and transform the everyday into wearable works of art. Through patterning, sewing, construction, and material experimentation, each student created something that moved beyond function to become an extension of the self. Together, these projects encouraged students to consider how what we wear can communicate who we are, turning objects designed to cover, protect, or carry the body into playful and/or deeply personal extensions of identity. by @fsuart
FSU DEPARTMENT OF ART PRESENTS “UNSTILL LIFE: A STUDY,” CURATED BY JEAN SHON AND NIA LOVE AT THE FAB GALLERY! The Florida State University Department of Art and FAB Gallery will open an exhibition this October showcasing the work of students in Jean Shon and Nia Love’s co-taught class “Unstill Life”. “Unstill Life: A Study” brings together nine students participating in this class focused on combining visual art, dance, and theater to explore environmental sites around Tallahassee: the historical sculptures on the FSU campus (Site 1), Railroad Square (Site 2), and the FAB Gallery (Site 3).  Through research, body scores, and conversations around each site’s history, student artists Max Allen, Lilian Baker, Alyssa Barbee, Aryama Bej, Addison Jedd, Andres Laguna, Nneka Onwuka, Farrah Phillips, and Smyrna Troncoso create embodied responses, narratives, and generative works using the body, video, performance, installation, and sound scores. Each site is confluent upon the next, creating collective relationships, iterations of transformations, and transmissions that examine, rethink, and destabilize preconceived notions of traditional and non-traditional space and place. Ultimately, this study investigates sensory experiences and relationships to the voyeur, engaging how the body acts as both an instrument and archive within the landscape. Regarding the Unstill Life Class, 2nd Year MFA student Farrah Phillips states: “Unstill Life has pushed me to step outside of my initial artistic practices, in both concept and materiality alike. As a class, we have been called to research various settings in Tallahassee and respond to the information with collaborative feats of physical and tactile creativity. My appreciation for performance art as a whole has grown and deepened, and I could not be more grateful for my experiences in Unstill Life!” The exhibit will run from October 29 through December 2, with an opening reception on Thursday, October 29 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. by @fsuart
