Connection is more than something we encourage. It's something we build into our program.

One of the ways we put this into practice is by keeping our newest pups connected with our graduates.

Our experienced Service Dogs and Facility Dogs have already walked the path our younger dogs are just beginning. By spending time together, our pups have opportunities to observe, interact with, and learn from dogs who have already developed the confidence, skills, and experience they'll need in their own working lives.

These relationships also help our younger dogs build social confidence, practice communication, and become comfortable in new situations alongside experienced companions.

Connection, mentorship, and lifelong learning aren't just values we teach. They're part of how we raise and train our dogs.

Mental Health Monday

Checking in doesn't have to mean asking, "Are you okay?" You can also ask:
- Have you been sleeping?
- When did you last take a break?
- Would you like to throw a ball?
- Do you want to go for a walk?

Supporting someone's mental health doesn't always require a difficult conversation. Sometimes it starts with a small, practical offer.

Support doesn't always come in the form of words, advice, or conversation. Sometimes, it comes with four paws, a warm body, and a willingness to stay close.

Physical contact can be a powerful source of comfort. For some people, the gentle weight and warmth of a dog resting against them can help them feel grounded, connected, and safe.

At FTK9 our dogs learn to offer different forms of physical connection based on the environment, needs and preferences of the people they support.

Here our program pup George demonstrates that sometimes the best way to give a little support is to lend your whole body!

**Because sometimes, being there for someone means quite literally being there.**

SD Eleanor was spotted recently. This helpful girl has recently learned to gather eggs from her backyard chickens - an impressive feat for such a large mouth!

Today, on National First Responders Day, we recognize the firefighters, paramedics, police officers, dispatchers, and emergency personnel who serve our communities every day.

Their work often takes place during someone else's most difficult moments. They respond with skill, compassion, and courage, frequently under circumstances that demand extraordinary physical and emotional resilience.

FTK9 has the privilege of working alongside many of these professionals and seeing firsthand their dedication to the people and communities they serve.

Today, we thank them for their service, acknowledge the sacrifices that often accompany it, and reaffirm our commitment to supporting their mental health and well-being.

**To all first responders, thank you for everything you do, both on duty and beyond the uniform.**

Mental Health Monday

A dog doesn't need to know your story to sit beside you.

One of the valuable things that dogs bring to animal-assisted interventions is the opportunity for connection without needing to know all the details.

For someone who isn't ready to talk about what they're experiencing, simply engaging in a structured activity with a trained working dog can provide a starting point.

Sometimes, support looks like a dog curled up in someone's lap, offering warmth, gentle pressure, and a comforting connection to the present moment.

But there's a lot of training behind that seemingly simple moment!

At Fire Team K9, our Service Dogs are taught more than 10 different tasks and over 50 commands to help support their handlers in everyday life.

From providing grounding and interrupting nightmares to retrieving dropped items and helping a handler navigate stressful situations, each dog's training is tailored to the specific needs of the person they'll support.

Some tasks are easy to recognize. Others are so subtle you might not even realize the dog is working, especially when all that training comes together in one quiet moment of connection.

Fall vibes!
Local shops like @sourjo_s bakery in Cobden are welcoming locations for our program dogs to experience the sights and scents of the season.
