POSTS STORIES REELS

About two weeks ago, I passed my qualifying exams and proposal oral defense, officially becoming a Ph.D. candidate!

I can honestly say I’ve been sleeping a little better since that day. 😅

The work certainly doesn’t stop here, but reaching this milestone has given me a renewed sense of direction. Now, I can focus my energy on what I’m most excited about, my dissertation research.

This accomplishment wasn’t achieved alone. Over the 4+ weeks of preparing for my written exams and proposal defense, I was surrounded by incredible people who showed up for me in so many ways. Friends dropped off meals, checked in with encouraging messages, and reminded me that I wasn’t alone in this process. I don’t take that kind of support for granted, and I’m deeply grateful for each of you.

A heartfelt thank you to my mentor and committee members for your time, thoughtful feedback, and support throughout this process.

And to my parents... thank you for driving eight hours to encourage me when I needed it the most.

Here’s to the next chapter: conducting my research, learning even more, and working toward the finish line. One step closer. 🎉 by @fuelingaphd

What’s in YOUR 🥼🔬🧪 playlist?!

Definitely one of the perks of being alone in the lab is running experiments with a curated playlist 🤪

this Caesar Wrap will be added to my weekly meal prep rotation for the foreseeable future! 🥬🍗💛🫓🌯🍽️

this semester I’ve been trying to find inspiration in the kitchen while I get my brain demolished (in a good way😅) in the lab🧪

A little bit of lab coat 🥼, a little bit of girl talk 💗, and A LOT of passion for what I do! 🧬🥑✨

This week, I went from spending 7 hours running an experiment in the lab to being the featured speaker for FIU’s Women’s Health & Wellness Initiative! 🫶🏼

We talked all things women’s health, feeling good from the inside out, healthy eating, easy recipes, and how our nutritional needs can shift throughout the menstrual cycle. 🌸🍓 I also got to share my journey from a bachelor’s in Nutrition to becoming a PhD candidate in Dietetics and Nutrition (still feels surreal sometimes 🥹🎓).

The girls came with AMAZING questions, and seeing their curiosity reminded me why I love what I do. 💕 Science is so important, but being able to take what we learn in the lab and turn it into practical knowledge that empowers women in their everyday lives? THAT’S the good stuff. 🥹💚

Research girl by day, nutrition educator whenever I get the chance! 👩🏻‍🔬✨ Forever grateful to do work that combines science, education, and community.

Sometimes, pseudoscience can get in the way of making the nutrition choice that actually makes the most sense for your goals. 👀

A scary claim like “this has bad metals” can be enough to make someone completely avoid a product—without asking: What metal? How much? Is it actually harmful? And…where did this information even come from? 🤔

This is why fear ≠ evidence. We have systems in place to evaluate and regulate the safety of our food supply, and nutrition decisions deserve more than one scary claim from a random video on the internet.

So before you panic and put something on your “NEVER EAT THIS” list… 😂
Ask questions. Check the source. Look at the evidence. 🔬🥗

Not all sugar is created equal! 🍓🍫

Lately I’ve seen more and more posts demonizing fruit because of its sugar content. But focusing only on grams of sugar misses the bigger picture.

A strawberry and a Snickers both contain sugar, but what comes with that sugar is very different.

🍓 Fruit provides fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and water.

🍫 A Snickers contains added sugar and much less fiber and fewer micronutrients.

Fiber also slows digestion and glucose absorption, generally creating a more gradual blood sugar response.

So instead of asking, “Does it have sugar?”

Ask 👉 “What else comes with that sugar?” #Nutrition #sportsnutrition by @fuelingaphd
