Almost two weeks living in Zürich. A few dog-walk fotos for fun while we get a grip (same dog, new city). Many more weeks (and photos??) to come.

Shot on #portra 160 (i.e., Ektacolor Pro), + @kodak #gold200film w/ #leicam6 + 35mm (f/2) #summicron35.

Developed and scanned by @arsimagoschweiz. by @gabehales

Five days on Isle Royale: Rock Harbor to Ozaagaateng / Windigo via the Minong Ridge trail. Not for the faint of heart, particularly when carrying your nice camera & a dozen rolls of film. But, well worth it I’d reckon.

Also: if you’re able, take the sea plane. My god, what a ride!

Shot on #porta400 (i.e., Ektacolor Pro), #cinestill800t + #gold200 w/ #leicam6 + #35mm (f/2) summicron.

Some select shots from shooting while on walks with dog last week. Lovely moments. Start of summer in Chicago.

more rolls developed, more time spent with 35mm (+ with dog). I like this. Dog loves it (far longer walks recently). That said I didn’t particularly like most of the fotos this time around…

Ah well. Very fun. Much practice to be had; till time next..

shot on #porta400 and #gold200film w/ #leica #m6 + #leicaphoto #35mm (f/2) summicron. #leicam6

Selected fotos from first (ever) rolls of 35mm film with #leicam6 — @ilfordphoto HP5 400 (black & white) + @kodak Gold 200 (color). All from end of April 2026 (Chicago & East Lansing). Getting the hang of a rangefinder & the classic exposure meter. Still giddy every time I take a shot. More to come.

Oh, and also some Ph.D. grad photos interspersed! (1 May, 2026) by @gabehales

Point+shoots of this and that and some other things. I guess I’m an insta-baddie now. Just can’t help it. I ooze film grain and over-saturation like I’m in a 2014 Portlandia sketch. It ain’t nothin to me man.

Oh and thanks to the Keech-ster for bringing back the (non-vape) disposable wave (@justicepeach99). You’re hip, man. by @gabehales

this one’s like a well aged fine wine, but without any of the aging yet. or it’s like a bottle that’s aged a little too long. BUT it’s still got a bit of that “fine wine” flavor either way. sip on that one, folks by @gabehales

this kind+pretty lady — as shown in the attached — had a birthday this past week. While the exact birth-date is not of particular concern for this post [it was 5-June, provided publicly for she does deserve continued well-wishes whether birthday-adjacent or otherwise], the occasion did serve as an excuse to reflect & remember the things we’ve done together (as if I needed an excuse to enjoy such niceties; but I digress).

shortening for those reading at home: over (almost 😮‍💨) five years, we’ve done some pretty extra-ordinary things and explored some more-than-ordinary places. I’ve attached images which serve as rudimentary snapshots of these places+things but, in reality, they do not, and could never — nor does this post in-and-of-itself — express the extent to which this lady, the one & only Maileen L. B., has impacted my life. As such, I wanted to (publicly) thank her for that, all the while hiding the message in an all too classic (belated) “birthday post.”

Maileen: happy birthday. here’s to more. keep lettin’ the sunshine in ☀️ by @gabehales

therapist says I should spend more time on “ hobbies “ and/or do more things that I ‘“ enjoy “’ as to—supposedly—cure any and all ailments I may be facing. unsure whatever the hell any of that means, but please; enjoy these assorted fotos :-)

All in all, the first few months in the big windy apple city have treated us quite well. by @gabehales

next time you see the world in that perfect light, where you are so overwhelmed with the beauty of it all. When the sun hits the water, sand, or waves so perfectly, or when the birds fly through the trees and you can’t believe how anything could be so beautifully presented for you in such a chaotic and unknown world..

know deep inside yourself that it is my father, Noah Hales, finally free to be what and where he loved. thank you. by @gabehales
