POSTS STORIES REELS

Welcome to my world ✂️

My name is Gaëlle Van Lierde, a fashion student exploring identity through eclectic silhouettes, bold colors, prints and layered textures.
I don’t follow trends — I create characters, emotions and new visual languages through clothing.

This space is where I share my experiments, my process, my successes and my chaos while growing as a designer.

Yesterday felt surreal in so many ways…
As a fashion design student, seeing my look shown at Tel Aviv Fashion Week was a dream come true. I’m so deeply grateful for this opportunity… though my heart still feels small. It’s a happy-sad moment, because the model Eitan I originally created this look for is no longer with us.

When I first heard the news of his passing it broke me. Honestly, I didn’t even want to keep the clothes anymore, they felt like they didn’t belong to me. But when Eitan’s sister, Eliana, chose to bring this look back to life, it became such a beautiful and touching moment. Seeing her wear it yesterday at Tel Aviv Fashion Week moved me beyond words. I was so amazed by her strength and determination to give her brother a beautiful memory.

In a way, I feel the garment became a bridge between memory and reality. It reminded me how fashion can carry emotion, how something made with your hands can hold a story, a person, a feeling.

For me, it’s no longer just a design project. It became a tribute a small way to honor someone who touched many hearts, and a reminder that creativity can also be an act of remembrance.

Course: Tailoring Men

My project, titled Aestheticized Ignorance, explores how cultures are often oversimplified in storytelling just to make them visually appealing.

Inspired by The Adventures of Tintin, this project explores how Hergé’s early work often represented cultures through colonial stereotypes and limited research, most notably in Tintin in the Congo. Later in his career, he shifted toward a more researched and respectful approach.

By imagining Tintin in Tel Aviv, I reinterpret Hergé’s visual language through the city’s Bauhaus architecture and Mediterranean landscape, exploring how fashion can move beyond stereotypes and tell a more authentic story of place and culture.

Throwback to my Kidswear collection from Year 2, Second Semester, 2025.

Inspired by Japanese nature and mythology, this collection explores the space where childhood wonder meets resilience. It reflects the quiet strength children develop as they navigate the joys, uncertainties, and challenges of growing up.

At its heart is the legend of the koi fish, swimming tirelessly against the current until it transforms into a dragon, a powerful metaphor for perseverance, courage, and personal growth.

The collection also pays tribute to Sadako and the thousand paper cranes, embracing their enduring symbolism of hope, healing, peace, and good fortune. by @gaelle.van.lierde
