Same crossroads. 87 years apart.

This is Mosquito Crossing in Greene County in 1939. Back then it was a sandy, open dirt road. Today, that same spot is surrounded by working forests. 🌲

Landowners planted trees because there was a market for wood, and that is still how it works today. When Georgia-grown wood products sell, Georgia tree farmers can continue being good stewards of the land - providing clean air, clean water, wildlife habitat, jobs, and everyday renewable products for generations.

Georgia's forests are proof that strong markets and responsible stewardship go hand in hand. For generations, economic opportunity has encouraged landowners to plant, manage, and replant forests, delivering environmental benefits to the public without the need for mandates.

The Georgia Forestry Foundation works to support the entire supply chain from landowners to manufacturers to new businesses creating innovative products from wood. Because healthy markets make healthy forests, families, and communities.

Most people think wood is only used to build single-family homes. But today wood is being used for high-rise buildings, schools, and apartments across Georgia. From Atlanta to Macon to Savannah, these projects use mass timber, engineered wood beams and panels where builders once used steel and concrete. Each one creates new demand for wood and new markets for the forests that grow it. GFF’s Mass Timber Collective is working to bring more of these projects to Georgia.

What do cell phones, a car tire, jet fuel and a modern office building have in common? They all support working forests in Georgia.

Georgia's forests become thousands of products we use every day. Everyone of them depends on people. Landowners grow the trees, loggers harvest them, and manufacturers turn them into products.

That’s what Made from Georgia Forests is all about. When there’s demand for wood products, Georgia landowners keep growing trees and rural towns keep their jobs.

🌲MASS TIMBER CONTINUES TO BUILD IN GEORGIA 🦺

The Middle Regional Airport has officially begun construction on the HighNote Aviation Executive Terminal, pairing mass timber with a guitar design to honor the city's history in music as well as one of the state's leading industries!

Passero Architect, Chris Nardone, guided Georgia Forestry Foundation leadership and participants from the Georgia Mass Timber Accelerator on a tour of the site. Edged between two historical wartime hangars, the new terminal is the first of its kind in the region using locally-grown southern yellow pine and locally-sourced mass timber.

Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller joined the discussion on how Georgia continues to play a role in making history through innovation and courage. GFF featured the project at last year's Macon Mass Timber Hub.

To watch the Macon Hub presentation and learn how you can get involved with mass timber in Georgia visit georgiamasstimber.org.

Thank you to Sheridan Construction, Passero Architects, Macon-Bibb County Mayor's Office, and HighNote Aviation!

✈️ Georgia’s forests can help fuel the future of aviation.

Today in Atlanta, the Georgia Forestry Association joined business, agriculture, aviation and research leaders to launch the Georgia Sustainable Aviation Fuel Coalition — working together to position Georgia as a leader in the emerging sustainable aviation fuel industry.

Georgia’s forestry community has a long history of innovation. Today, more than 5,000 products are made from trees — providing the materials we depend on every day for survival, comfort and progress.

For Georgia, that means the potential for healthier markets that support rural economies and help keep Georgia’s forests working.

With nearly 22 million acres of working forests, world-class manufacturing infrastructure and the renewable resources to support a growing bioeconomy, Georgia is uniquely positioned to help lead this conversation.

At GFA, we’re proud to bring all of Georgia’s forestry community to the table as our forests, farms, businesses and research institutions work together to explore what’s next.

Georgia’s forests are working for Georgia — and they can help fuel the future. 🌲✈️ #LetsGrow #GaForestry #forestry by @gaforestryfdn
