EAST WEST PLAYERS did a wonderful job in staging "Unbroken Blossoms." My family and I enjoyed the play very much. All the actors were strong and delivered great jobs in their roles. Of course, director Jeff Liu, playwright Philip W. Chung, director of production Andy Lowe, and the entire cast and crew are to be commended! Details and tickets for this show and more productions to come at: https://www.eastwestplayers.org/ @yomyomfphil @gavin.k.lee @songronsong @arye.gross @theahellquist #conlanledwith #eastwestplayers by @gavin.k.lee
Put your hands together for…GAVIN KAWIN LEE! Gavin is playing the role of James B. Leong. Head to the link in bio or eastwestplayers.org/unbroken to get your tickets! ——— UNBROKEN BLOSSOMS 📽️🎬🌼 By Philip W. Chung Directed by Jeff Liu A World Premiere Two men are hired as the Chinese American consultants for Broken Blossoms, Hollywood’s first onscreen interracial love story... between a white actress and a white actor in yellowface. If the circumstances weren’t already questionable enough, the consultants must contend with the outsized ego of director D.W. Griffith, who is attempting to belie criticisms of racism after the release of his controversial film The Birth of a Nation.  Presented by East West Players, Unbroken Blossoms is a historical reimagining that shines a light on the silenced voices behind the real silent film. 📷: @teolindo.art 🎟️: eastwestplayers.org/unbroken by @gavin.k.lee
A tale from the past... I'll be performing in a world premiere of a play at East West Players: Unbroken Blossoms! The play is a historical reimagining of the making of the boundary-breaking Hollywood classic that shines a light on the collateral damage in the search for "authentic" representation, and asks what we pay for our art. Thank you @eastwestplayers and @chinesepirate_ for casting me as James B. Leong! It has been an honor to be able to portray this prolific Hollywood actor and filmmaker from the silent film era. Come see this play written by the insightful, incredibly talented playwright, Philip W. Chung, and directed by the awe-inspiring visionary, Jeff Liu! Previews begin June 27th and runs until July 21st!
