Move with Oya.
Storm. Shift. Transform.
This is her space, and ours.
My offering to the storm that dances with me.

Last night someone asked me what it is like to carry Oya. I answered, but the question is still with me. To walk with Oya is to know stillness in the midst of twists and turns. It is bravery and boldness, cool winds and scorching heat, rising, falling, dancing between what was and what is emerging. Yet no answer ever feels complete. How do you explain a wind that has become part of your breathing? Some things are not understood through explanation alone. They are understood through the roads they lead you down, the blessings hidden in unexpected places, the strength they awaken, and the person you become when you learn the art of release. Oya is not something I can fully describe. She is something I have lived, something I am still learning, and something that moves through me like a remembered wind. Jakuta Blessings! E Kaabo (Welcome), dear ones, I am Iya Oyafunmilayo, the face behind this space. This page is a reflection of my journey, my devotion, and the lessons I continue to learn along the way. At the center of it all is my Mother, Oya, the whirlwind of change, the fierce marketplace woman, the one who clears paths with wind and storm. She has saved me more times than I can count, breathing with me, lifting me from endings, carrying me through chaos, and teaching me the beauty of resilience: to rise again and again, to rebuild after the winds, and to stand unbroken, unwavering, and enduring through it all. This page is Her home. A space to honor Her power, Her wisdom, and Her presence. I pray Her winds reach you here too, bringing clarity, courage, resilience, and new beginnings. An elder of mine asked a thought-provoking question around what we DO versus what we SAY. I have been sitting with it. Oya has little patience for the performance of transformation. She demands that we reckon with what it actually requires. What we say we believe, stand for, and are willing to change means very little when our actions tell another story. Grateful for elder warriors who refuse to let us hide behind our words. Accountability is also an act of love. I love how radical Oya is. She refuses the boxes constructed around womanhood. She holds authority and ain’t conforming, tender without submission, and powerful without the need to contain it. She is a reminder that womanhood was never meant to be a singular expression. Mojuba Yansa! 🖼️: @ngritoo Sweet Friday Jakuta Blessings, Oyafunmi #oya #yansa #oyadolu by @gbogbooya9
Oya, fill us from the inside out. Stir the winds within us. Cover every part of us with your affirming heat. Use the fire from your mouth to burn up our fears, doubts, and enemies, even the enemy we have become to ourselves. I declare that we be made new! May what we release never reclaim us! Oya, let the fire transform us and the winds carry us ever forward. Mojuba Oya! 🖼️: @felipetornieri Jakuta Blessings, Iya Oyafunmilayo by @gbogbooya9
Do you really understand your own power? Not the power you claim, but the power you carry. Do you understand what your presence shifts, what your words set in motion, and what your silence permits? Power is not simply what you can do. It is also what you choose to do, what you refuse to do, and whether you understand the consequences of either. The deeper I go with Oya, the more I understand the wisdom of power. I pray we know the weight of our power before we wield it, and never confuse our ability to move with the wisdom to know when. Oya came with a message: Can we receive correction without reaching for a defense? Can we face the truth about ourselves without shifting the blame? Can we look beyond what we ask of Oya and examine what she is asking us to confront within ourselves? Honoring an Orisa is one thing. Being accountable in that relationship is another. Oya, jowo, help us know the difference. Mojuba Yansa! 🖼️: orixanossodecadadia Jakuta Blessings, Iya Oyafunmilayo #oya #yansa #yansã #oriri #orisa by @gbogbooya9
Sometimes we think we are bigger than the program. Sometimes, we want our intentions to count more than our actions, and our titles to speak louder than our conduct. Oya reminds us that power is NOT just about the force we carry, but what we DO with it. Are we committed to the work, or just connected to it? What if we were never meant to make ourselves easier to contain? Who taught us to fear the fullness of what we carry? Oya, let us live as expansively as we pray. 📸: @oja_aje_botanica_9, the biggest Iya and my dope ass sistaaaaa! Jakuta Blessings, Iya Oyafunmilayo by @gbogbooya9
Mojuba Oya. Oya Odo. The Niger River! 2,600 miles of river. Spanning five countries. And still she moves. Imagine having that much capacity, that much memory, and that much power… Oh baby, playing small was never her assignment. It isn’t in her nature. And it isn’t in yours either! Flow on with your BIG fine self. Jakuta Blessings! Big ati Wide, Iya Oyafunmilayo 🖼️: @fotosporcassio #oya #oyaodo by @gbogbooya9
Oya understands something we spend our lives forgetting: Movement does not always look like motion. Sometimes nothing moves. And yet, nothing remains where it was. Mojuba Yansa! Sweet Friday Blessings! Better and Better, Iya Oyafunmilayo by @gbogbooya9
