IDEC SPORT is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary at the 2025 ELMS finale in Portimão with a special livery on their LMP2 car, paying tribute to their origins with Ruffier Racing and a decade of motorsport excellence. The design bridges the past—when Paul and Patrice Lafargue raced a Porsche 911 GT3-R under Ruffier Racing—with IDEC SPORT’s remarkable journey to becoming a European endurance racing powerhouse. From winning the 24 Hours Series in their debut year to acquiring Ligier LMP2s and a Mercedes AMG GT3, IDEC SPORT has thrived in grueling championships. They debuted at Le Mans in 2017, switched to Oreca 07s by 2019, and expanded to two Oreca 07s and an LMP3 in 2021. In 2023, they moved to a new workshop in Signes, and in 2024, they secured a podium at Le Mans. This year, partnered with Genesis Magma Racing, IDEC SPORT has dominated ELMS with three wins in five races, chasing a second European title. The Portimão livery symbolizes this legacy, blending history and ambition as they aim for glory in the final round. #IDECSPORT #GenesisMagmaRacing #ELMS2025 #Portimão #WEC #Racing #Sportscar #Hypercars #Cars #Oreca #4HPortimão #Livery by @genesis_lemans

Genesis Magma GMR-001 Endurance Test: Portimão
Genesis Magma Racing’s GMR-001 Hypercar completed a 32-hour endurance test at Portimão, Portugal (Sept 16-18, 2025), following its initial shakedown at Paul Ricard. The session validated the 3.2L twin-turbo V8’s cooling, powertrain durability, tire wear across compounds in 30°C+ heat, and hybrid energy deployment per WEC rules.
Double/triple-stint runs and night testing with Two-Line LED headlights confirmed reliability.
Chief Engineer Justin Taylor said: “The main target... is to put miles on the car and see what problems you can generate... We’re learning something new with every stint.”
IDEC Sport’s recently promoted drivers Mathys Jaubert noted: “Driving the GMR-001... was very special. It’s very powerful... but easy to find the rhythm in.” Dani Juncadella added: “I... can support a lot with feedback... from my experience in endurance racing.”
Pipo Derani emphasized stress-testing: “You want to... stress components... to find failures.” André Lotterer praised the headlights: “We quickly realized that our lights are very good.”
Sporting Director Gabriele Tarquini lauded the newcomers: “Mathys and Dani... provided very good feedback.” Next steps include aero and software updates for 2026 WEC.

WR SsangYong Solo: South Korea’s first Le Mans racer. A project led by ex-F1 driver Bertrand Gachot. Built from a scrapyard engine and sheer determination, this is the story of a modest Korean automaker’s near-miss at motorsport glory. In the mid-1990s, SsangYong, known for trucks and SUVs, sought to rebrand as a premium player in Europe. Targeting the 24 Hours of Le Mans to showcase their engineering, they leveraged their Mercedes tech partnership. Bertrand Gachot, a Belgian driver who won Le Mans in 1991 with Mazda’s 787B and raced F1 for Jordan and Larrousse, was recruited via his friend Ko Gotoh, a Pacific F1 shareholder. SsangYong’s challenge: race at Le Mans on a minimal budget with a Mercedes engine. Gachot’s Pretty Good Management (PGM), with partner Jean Messaoudi, assembled a “virtual team” using rented tools and ex-F1 mechanics. They selected a Welter Racing LM94 chassis, a lightweight former Le Mans Pole sitter. For the engine, Gachot sourced 2-liter turbo Mercedes blocks from a UK scrapyard—aged cast-iron units, strengthened by thermal cycles, inspired by BMW’s F1 engines. Nicholson-McLaren Engines modified them with minimal changes (new mounts, bellhousing), creating a race-ready four-cylinder turbo for the WR-SsangYong Solo. Aiming for the 1996 24 Hours of Le Mans, the team faced April’s Test Day and pre-qualifying. Gachot drove solo, and the car showed pace, but a mysterious issue (likely electrical or fuel-related) stalled it during pre-qualifying. A collision with another WR car ended their qualification hopes. In September 1996, they competed in the Coupes d’Automne ACO, a 4-hour race on Le Mans’ Bugatti circuit. Gachot and Emmanuel Clerico qualified third, 0.9s off the leading WR car, outpacing Porsche-powered Courage entries. In the first heat, Gachot led until a throttle issue dropped them to eighth; the second heat ended in a DNF. The Solo proved its potential but faded from the spotlight.
