And we take the brakes off ✨✨✨

‘In the Quiet of Us’ will have its World Premiere at @sadlers_wells Lilian Baylis Studio, 19 - 21 November✨

A friend once told me that, as artists, we probably make the same work again and again over time. I may have been making this piece since 2008, orbiting around recurring themes.
I’ve always been fascinated by the tragedy of the error that re-orders the world. The smallest gesture, delay or misreading that can alter everything.
This duet explores the fragile nature of human connection through the lens of the brain’s architecture. Looking at the quiet, intangible space between us, it asks whether our smallest acts are any less critical than those inside an operating theatre, where a single movement matters. Fragility isn’t the opposite of connection, it’s what connection costs.
The work draws on the ‘Tegos Tapes’, born from an extraordinary collaboration between my uncle, neurosurgeon Dr Stergios Tegos and visionary composer Vangelis. Together, they brought microneurosurgery footage and original music into dialogue: an interdisciplinary meeting of the microscopic and the cosmic, tracing a link between neurons, sound and the constellations that shape our universe.
Working in that same spirit of collaboration with composer @alexandros_miaris and a team of exceptional artists, I’m proud to be bringing this work to the stage and sharing it with audiences. ✨

IN THE QUIET OF US
WORLD PREMIERE
SADLER’S WELLS LILIAN BAYLIS STUDIO
19.11.2026

My latest collaboration with Studio Georgia Tegou, In the Quiet of Us, comes to London this November. ✨

When Georgia first spoke to me, I brought up some images from within an endoscope; the kind of images one could expect to see on screens inside an operating theatre, as the camera captures the surgery in action. Explicitly macabre but also beautifully abstract, this is how I made sense of the ideas that she was describing. She seemed surprised, but then smiled, and shared a story she didn’t anticipate telling me about. In 1988, Georgia’s uncle, neurosurgeon Dr. Stergios Tegos, collaborated with legendary composer Vangelis (Chariots of Fire, Conquest of Paradise) to compose a score for footage from inside Tegos’ operating theatre.

The ‘Tegos Tapes’ celebrate unlikely relationships, which seek beauty in the most fragile spaces. They read the body as landscape, part naturally configured, part altered by man. This has offered a baseline for the creative team to assemble a piece that straddles between myth and reality.

Just like Ochre in 2022—the project we first worked on for ŻfinMalta in Malta—I am operating as both a curator and set designer, building worlds for these dancers to inhabit and audiences to dive into. I’m so grateful I get to work with Georgia again, together with a full team of inspiring artists. ✨
