Thank you @sometimes__gallery for inviting me to take part in Magic Woods show! It was really fun figuring out how to make an outdoor sculpture. My vision for this piece was for it to feel like a 5 year old took big markers and drew a huge flower right on top of a wooded area, and for that drawing to come to life. Hope you get a chance to check her out! “Flower Drawing (pink and red)” 80x 27x14 in 475 plastic grocery bags, Dryer ducts (news+ Used), Foam, concrete, paper pulp, acrylic, wire 2026 by @georgiesgurl
How do you use your intuition when you’re creating art and what does it feel like? “I use my intuition the whole time I’m making. It feels like I’m having this quiet back-and-forth with the materials. I’ll spread things out — scraps, plastics, bottles, whatever’s in front of me — and instead of forcing them into something, I ‘watch’ and ‘listen’ for what feels right. Sometimes it’s super clear, like, ‘oh, that piece has to go there,’ and other times it’s slower, like a tug in the background that I have to pay attention to. The feeling is somewhere between play and trust. Play, because I let myself mess around without worrying if it ‘works’ yet, and trust, because I’ve learned to follow that gut pull even when it doesn’t totally make sense. Most of the time, it leads me somewhere better than I could’ve planned out anyway.” — Mary Fleming, Richmond, Virginia @georgiesgurl @artistsoncouches #maryfleming #artistsoncouches #artisttalk #conversationswithartists #meettheartist #artistlife #purposeofart #artistssupportartists #artlife #artistsoninstagram #onthecouch#artistsupportpost #artcommunity #artistcommunity #artistspotlight #artspotlight #todaysartreport by @georgiesgurl

The internal debate on whether to paint these is constant. I love the gray color but also I love color. These babies are big; I know what they say “big flowers need a big vase” Keep gray or paint? Thoughts? by @georgiesgurl
