Thank you for coming to the KOLO presentation yesterday. It was good to see the pendant in a room full of people who looked at it closely. Our thanks also go to the @viennadesignweek team for making these autumn days so vibrant. The pre-order conditions will follow soon. Cheers, ZAVADSKI by @georgsampl
KOLO, a modular pendant light, presented for the first time during Vienna Design Week 2026 Designed by: The Vienna-based Design Duo Lena Beigel and Georg Sampl creates products combining deeply rooted knowledge about craftsmanship with industrial processes. Their work is driven by the responsibility for what design introduces into our everyday lives and infrastructure. ZAVADSKI presents KOLO during Vienna Design Week Where the name came from? An email, sent by Oleh to Lena and Georg, mid-project: “So far the most elaborated name circulating in my mind is KOLO. After Koloman Moser, one of the founders of Secession (BTW: look at the ceiling cup of his pendant…). His short name, at least the way his friends called him, was Kolo. Besides, Kolo in Ukrainian means Circle (both in geometrical and cosmological meanings). This word also rolls, goes forward, like Volvo (in Latin means something like I go or I roll).” Presentation: WEDNESDAY, 30 SEPTEMBER, 7PM ZAVADSKI SHOWROOM, BURGGASSE 67, 1070 VIENNA PART OF VIENNA DESIGN WEEK. At this years Staatspreis Design I was awarded with a distinction by the international jury commissioned by @designaustria and supported by BMWET. The design and engineering work for @kitchen.to.keep is an ongoing collaboration developing modular, easy to install and expandable kitchen furniture made from stainless steel. Together with other projects awarded with the Staatspreis Design 2026 my work was beeing on display at @designaustria, MQ Vienna, @campusvaere @designforumv Designforum Vorarlberg and will be shown at @weissraum_designforum from 23.09.26-23.10.26 under the title "Best of Austrian Design" pictures © @valerie.eccli by @georgsampl

With KOLO, family-run company ZAVADSKI presents a pendant light developed in collaboration with designers Lena Beigel and Georg Sampl specifically for the spatial characteristics of Vienna’s historic apartments. The prototype of the light—designed in Vienna for Vienna—is on view at the ZAVADSKI showroom on Burggasse, which opened in 2025 and regularly presents works by Ukrainian artists alongside the company’s handcrafted pieces. Emphasizing the technical as well as the visual and poetic properties of metal alloys, microscopic structures of commonly used alloys are projected onto a freely cast piece. The light information hitting the mirrored surfaces of the pieces and reflecting onto the walls and floor elements unfolds visual allusions to both the technical potential of reuse and the fragility of each alloy’s composition. My work is nominated for an @austrian_interior_design_award Within the last year I designed and engineered this versatile system furniture, which can grow and shrink with ones needs. Desinging and engineering for @kitchen.to.keep was really as much fun as playing Lego as a kid! Keep kitchen reinterprets the concept of the kitchen as a piece of furniture and replaces the fitted kitchen with a timeless 'system furniture'. Due to the modular design of all its system typologies— wall module, tall cabinet, and island—individual kitchen elements can be expanded at any time, for example by adding another middle frame or simply longer connecting tubes. As a system furniture, each 'keep module' consists of welded frames, connecting tubes, cross tubes, and folded sheet metal parts, all made of stainless steel and optionally powder-coated in color. Four specially engineered corner connectors made of a die-cast zinc alloy are screwed to the welded frames, which then accommodate the connecting tubes of various lengths. The raw core of a simple module can be assembled with just eight M5 screws. All cladding parts and front panels can be removed or replaced easily. Additionally the modular design enables the construction of chests of drawers, sideboards, and cabinets, which can be cladded with a wide variety of materials. animation © @mindconsole by @georgsampl
