Since 2022, Kultur Ensemble — the Franco-German Cultural Institute formed by @goethezentrumatl and @afatl — has served as a dynamic, local hub for cultural cooperation and vibrant intercultural dialogue in Atlanta, bringing German and French language, arts, and ideas to an American audience.

On the sidelines of the #g20 Foreign Ministers Meeting in Atlanta, Ambassadors Hanefeld 🇩🇪 and Lechevallier 🇫🇷 visited Kultur Ensemble to honor this wonderful place showcasing German-French friendship and European cooperation. 🇪🇺

🌍 Global crises hurt everyone. Global cooperation helps everyone.

Free trade and global connections benefit all of us, and when crises hit, we all pay the price. Even when #G20 countries see the world’s conflicts differently, one thing is clear: instability is a growth killer.

Right now in #Atlanta, the German Foreign Minister is meeting with G20 partners to tackle the issues that matter most. Most of the group agrees on three points:

🔹 Iran must come to the negotiating table
🔹 The Houthis must stop their attacks
🔹 Russia must stop its attacks in the Black Sea, which are pushing global food security toward collapse

The G20 represents roughly 85% of global economic output, which makes it the right forum for getting the world economy back on track for growth.

📊 The G20 = ~85% of global GDP
🚢 ~75% of world trade
🤝 One shared idea: when the global economy thrives, everyone benefits
Open trade routes. Secure supply chains. Strong partnerships.

That means opportunities for businesses and jobs here in the U.S., in Germany, and beyond. by @germanyatlanta

German basketball legend Detlef Schrempf made NBA history, paving the way for generations of international players in a uniquely American sport. 🇩🇪🇺🇸

Originally from Leverkusen, Germany, Schrempf moved to the U.S. to pursue basketball, playing high school ball before continuing his career at the University of Washington and joining the NBA in 1985. A two-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year, he became the first European All-Star and the first German player to reach the NBA Finals.

In this installment of Shaping 250 — Faces of the German American Story, we celebrate Schrempf’s game-changing journey from Germany to the NBA and his lasting impact on American basketball. 🏀⛹️‍♂️ by @germanyatlanta

Team @germanyatlanta spent a highly educational afternoon connecting with our local academic community! 🎓

At the German Program in the School of Modern Languages at
@georgiatech, we discussed exciting opportunities for cross-cultural exchange and innovation, the strong ties of the German community in Georgia, and GT’s summer study abroad program, Languages for Business and Technology (LBAT), which offers students immersive experiences in major cities like Berlin and Vienna.

We also joined fellow members of the Atlanta Consular Corps for an insightful tour of @agnesscottcollege. We loved learning about all the amazing, forward-thinking programs at their Global Learning Center (@globalscotties), which is doing incredible work preparing the next generation of global leaders.

A huge thank you to both institutions for hosting us and fostering German as a Foreign Language as well as strong international connections right here in Georgia!

Hannah Arendt fled Nazi Germany and became one of the most important political thinkers of the modern age.

A Jewish philosopher who escaped an internment camp and arrived in America as a stateless refugee, Arendt wrote profoundly about totalitarianism, power, freedom, and how ordinary people can enable terrible things.

In this installment of Shaping 250 — Faces of the German American Story, we remember Arendt and the enduring relevance of her work. Her story reminds us that freedom requires vigilance—and that those who find refuge can help us better understand how to protect it. 🇩🇪🇺🇸 by @germanyatlanta
