“Germany and its people share strong ties with the Pacific Northwest—a region known for cutting edge innovation, creativity, and global connections. I’m excited to help deepen our partnerships in academia, business, and culture as we shape the future together.”

Consul General Kidess is eager to explore the states in our jurisdiction, connect with key figures in our bilateral relations, and meet the vibrant communities across the region. Stay tuned! by @germanyinsf

🌍 Celebrating 70 years of international friendship and connection! 🤝

Exactly 70 years ago, President Eisenhower launched the U.S. Sister City Program to build powerful people-to-people connections worldwide. Always a pioneer, San Francisco was among the first cities to seal its first partnership with Osaka, Japan, just months later in 1957! Today, San Francisco holds 18 partnerships around the world, with the German city on the Baltic Sea, Kiel, being one of the youngest, but equally vibrant and intense. 🌉⛵

Last week, the City and County of San Francisco celebrated the multiple connections between cultures and communities it has made during the last 70 years. We are proud to be part of this and happy to support the San Francisco – Kiel connection wherever possible. 🇩🇪🇺🇸

Young Voices, Strong Arguments! 🇩🇪🇺🇸🇨🇦🇲🇽
- and great achievements from for German language education in the Bay Area!

🇪🇺 How far should the European Union’s borders extend? Should non-European countries also be admitted to the EU?

This thought-provoking question took center stage at the Jugend debattiert Nordamerika 2026 final, held in Toronto on October 24.

🎉 A special congratulations to Anneliese Jarausch and Josephine Anthoff from BAKS+ in Berkeley, California, for making 2nd and 3rd place, respectively, in the DSD final, where they debated with impressive professionalism and skill.

Warm congratulations to Rania Solbach from GISSV (German International School of Silicon Valley) on placing third in the final debate of the German Schools Abroad (Deutsche Auslandsschulen). Here the final issue up for debate was: "Should students be entitled to a certain number of unexcused absences each semester for mental health breaks?"

A great achievement for German language education in the Bay Area all-round! 👏

Jugend debattiert Nordamerika strengthens critical thinking, persuasive communication, and the ability to engage with different perspectives – skills that are essential to a vibrant democracy and meaningful international dialogue.

We are delighted to see young people embracing the German language and contributing to a vibrant culture of debate across North America.

🌉 Willkommen in California, German language community! 🇩🇪🇺🇸

For the first time in 34 years, the GLSC - German Language School Conference took place on the West Coast, hosted by GISSV the German International School of Silicon Valley in Mountain View. Deputy Consul General Franciska Obermeyer was delighted to deliver opening remarks.

From professional development for school leaders and teachers to the exchange of ideas and best practices among organizations from across the United States, the conference strengthened collaboration in promoting German language education. 🤝

Because understanding one another takes more than a translation app. 💬

Many thanks to Board Chair Dr. Stefanie Mischner PhD, to GLSC founder and longtime Board President Dr. Renate Ludanyi, and to GISSV for hosting! 💛
