COMMUNITY BUILDING 101 -Nsikak Solomon (@_bigboylem ) 1. Come to events ready to connect. You’re not just there to perform-you’re there to be seen, heard, and remembered. Say hello. Compliment someone’s shirt. Talk about your sound. Your network will carry your music farther than talent alone ever will. 2. Skip the green room and blend in first. Arrive early and Mingle with the crowd. Those new connections might cheer you on during your set. Energy is contagious. Build it before you perform. 3. Say thank you to the organizers. Before leaving, make it a point to greet a member of the planning team or even just say, “Thank you.” Gratitude makes you memorable. That’s how repeat bookings happen. 4. Don’t come alone. Bring a squad. If you’re taking an Uber, bring 3 friends. -They’ll boost your energy -They’ll connect with others on your behalf -They’ll gas you up during your set Numbers amplify your presence. Use it. 5. Set the tone for your performance. Position your people right in front of the stage. Flashlights on. Phones recording. Their energy will spread and influence others to vibe with you too. You create your own moment. 6. Confirm your music with the DJ. Before your set, speak with the stage manager or DJ. Make sure: -Your file works -The sound is clear -There’s a proper cue You’ve worked too hard to get there. Don’t fumble on tech. 7. Don’t rush home after your performance. Some of your best opportunities will come after your set: -People who enjoyed it might want to talk -Organizers might observe your vibe off-stage -You might meet future collaborators Stay. Connect. Build. Writers Note: These tips won’t just help you stand out, they’ll help you build your own community by showing up inside others. Every event is a stage, even when you’re not the one performing. by @getjirika
