In case you missed it, the UN led by the President of Ghana, John Mahama, just declared the slavery of Africans the gravest crime against humanity. 123 countries voted in favor and 3 against namely U.S, Isreal and Argentina. UK, Spain and France were neutral 🙂 “I must say, if Ghana(Africa) should be beyond aid The solutions no fit be band aid I don’t care, if the west is against us Forget them, focus and fix us Nkabom, that’s the people power The struggle is sweet, mixed with sour Greatness is us Don’t sell out for a brown paper bag” - @manifestive 🎶 (excerpt from Brown Paper Bag) Well, on that note, remember to stay fresh while we build our homeland 💈💇🏿‍♂️ It’s just a Ghana Thing 🇬🇭 Set design: @ghanamustgooo Styling: @zarbrickk Models: @sterlings1__ @treyyishot Film: @mrorichgram Editing/Sound: @tmdprod_ Song: Brown Paper Bag @sarkodie @manifestive Brands: @chale_clothing @around_clothingg d by @ghanamustgooo
Tailors, Designers, Artists One Peculiar thing about Ghana’s fashion industry is our commitment to custom made pieces. I decided to patronize one of @garbproject247 Nkrumah shirt highlighted in this video and was amazed that my order was custom made tailored to fit. This meant having to wait a couple of days for the fit but everything made sense when I wore it. It wasn’t just a shirt. It was a Piece of Art 🎨🖌️. Eid Mubarak 🤲🏿📿 Did you know 🇬🇭Ghana is known for Religious Coexistence. In many households you will find Muslims and Christians living peacefully together. This apparently is not very common around the world. Hoping that the world would soon heal and we can see each other as humans instead being divided because of who we pray to. Oware The oware game is from the Akan people of Ghana and has been played for centuries across West Africa. It’s just seeds and a wooden board or holes 🕳️ in the ground. But winning at it requires strategy, patience and a bit of psychological wit. The funny thing about going to Ghana earlier this year is that it made me realize something. So much of what I always thought was just my individual “personality” or “character” was actually pieces of my culture and childhood showing up in me. There were so many moments where I caught myself thinking, “Ahh… so that’s why I do this.” Meeting people—especially family—felt like meeting different versions of myself in other bodies. It was honestly such a cool experience to see things from that perspective. It made me understand that culture is almost like DNA. It’s in the blood, in the body, in the bones. It’s the fabric that quietly shapes who you are. So every year on Ghana Independence Day, I’m proud to say that my essence was born out of whatever historical forces shaped the nation into what it is today—the good, the bad, the beautiful, the complicated. All of it at once. That’s us.
