Two years of Kathak Dance School Berlin. (Actually two years and one month by now) What began on 1 August 2024 with one teacher, six students, and one class a week has slowly grown into something much bigger than we had imagined. Today, we are two teachers, three classes a week, and, more importantly, a community of people who come together to learn, move, experiment, question, laugh, and grow. Building something independently and without funding comes with its challenges. But it also comes with a certain kind of freedom - the freedom to explore without having to arrive somewhere, to question what we have inherited, to challenge and unsettle, to take time, change direction, and sometimes simply see what happens. Perhaps communities grow differently this way too. Without too many predefined structures around them, relationships have space to emerge in unexpected ways. And that has probably been the most beautiful part of these two years. Beyond the classes, the footwork, the compositions, the conversations, and all the things we are still figuring out, friendships have formed. People have found one another. A space that began as a place to teach and learn dance has slowly become a place of belonging. That is difficult to measure, and even harder to put into words. Two years later, we feel mostly grateful - for everyone who has walked into this space, stayed, questioned, contributed, danced, and helped shape it into what it is becoming. Happy two years to Kathak Dance School Berlin. 💙 Thank you @tak.berlin for hosting us since day one 💙 Thank you, @moupiaphotography , for capturing some of our moments so beautifully 💙 by @ghazalramzani
Soli-Workshop for Iran "Singing Together Discovering Our Voices Through Iranian Protest Songs" Faciliatator: Ghazal 🗓️Sat 08.08.2026 -12:30-14:00 📍Kraken- Jahnstraße 87 ,12347 Neukölln - (at the corner with Britzer Damm.) Sliding Scale Contribution: €10–20 All funds raised will be sent directly, through trusted private channels, to support daily-wage workers and families affected by the ongoing consequences of the war. Description: This workshop is open to everyone - whether you already enjoy singing, are curious to explore your voice for the first time, or simply want to experience the joy of singing together. No previous singing experience or knowledge of Farsi is required. We will begin with simple, playful vocal and breathing exercises, exploring how relaxation and body awareness can help open and support the voice. From there, we will gradually learn a selection of Iranian protest songs, discovering their melodies, learning the lyrics and pronunciation, and exploring the stories and meanings behind them. Together, we will use singing as a way to connect, express ourselves, and experience the power of collective voice. Soli-Workshop for Iran: " Rhythms of Resistance: Dancing to Bengali protest songs“ Facilitator: Prajna Duration: 90 Minutes 🗓️ Saturday 08.08.2026 - 14:30 -16:00 📍Kraken- Jahnstraße 87 ,12347 Neukölln - (at the corner with Britzer Damm.) Sliding Scale Contribution: €10 - 20 All funds raised will be sent directly, through trusted private channels, to support daily-wage workers and families affected by the ongoing consequences of the war. In this session facilitated by Prajna, we’ll dance to Hey Samalo Dhan Go, a 1940s anti-colonial farmers’ anthem from Bengal. We’ll move through dynamic, rhythmic choreography grounded in natural expression, and experience what it feels like to physically translate a song of protest. Since this is about community and collective unity, expect some gentle touch (like holding hands) and standing in close physical proximity. Printouts of the song in Bengali, Roman script, and translation will be provided, and we are happy to share recommended reading, music, and film lists after class for anyone interested in learning more. This session is open to all, and no prior dance experience is needed. Wear comfortable clothes; we will be moving dynamically! Finally! After two years of thinking about how to do such a project, and after five months of collective effort and research with an amazing group of artists and scholars, here we are. Come watch the first outcome of this ongoing artistic research, which questions dominant narratives and looks for new ways of dancing (Kathak) through speculative choreography.
