🔎In the context of psoriasis, “scales” refer to the thick, red, and often itchy patches of skin covered with silvery scales. These scales are a common symptom of psoriasis, a chronic autoimmune skin condition that speeds up the life cycle of skin cells, causing them to build up rapidly on the surface of the skin. This buildup forms scales and red patches that can be itchy and sometimes painful.
