Congrats to the Grand Illusion team for finishing a job in a commercial office in Copenhagen Denmark. The job consisted of a lettering & striping mural, as well as red plaster. The striping mural colors were chosen to represent the local colors of Denmark 🇩🇰.

Excellent work to the crew of @gidp_nyc which were @pgfinkel @aurelien_francisco @heidi_zilmer @mo_signs @jakob_engberg @copenhagensigns

Thank you @gidp_nyc @pgfinkel for inviting me on your team of skilled craftsmen to create decorative painted surfaces in Copenhagen 🙏🏽🎨🖌️🧑🏽‍🎨
It’s a bit nerve wrecking to be onboard and I’m really happy to join and learn new skills, observing how you run a project like this.
Wonderful to work side by side with @aurelien_francisco another great decorative painter from Paris. And finally meeting Jacob from @copenhagensigns ✨
I can’t believe it took a New York based French decorative painter working in Copenhagen for us to finally meet ✨🙂
Also a big shout out to @mo_signs - great to meet and talk - you guys are awesome sign painters ✨🙌🏽🖌️

Wrap up of another epic Salon, this year in Horsens Denmark. Pierre Finkelstein gave 2 excellent lectures this year, one solo and one with Sean Crosby, as well as contributed his panel for this year’s Nordic theme.

Pierre collaborated with @sean_crosby65 by painting the trompe l’oeil frame over Sean’s faux marble (pic 6). As always it’s fun to see fellow painters panels and to collaborate on painting the Group Mural. (Pic 1-5) He used the pointed 2-header brush to paint the fine hair strokes. This years group mural was designed by @amblardpascal

Thank you @decorativepaintingsalon and @heidi_zilmer for throwing another excellent SALON.

These are two of the faux marble pedestals I painted recently that were installed at the @frickcollection during their latest renovation. This has two types of faux Breccia… first the styles and rails are northern antique Breccia from Belgium. The central panels of the pedestal are similar to Breccia from Medous. I was matching an existing marble mantle that came from France.

Everything was done with the @hv_art_lacquerpaint system from primer, base coat, glaze, & topcoat, it is all waterborne.

These Breccia are multi layers of paint that create the fine fragments. There is no cutting corners in a faux marble like this! Every single fragment needed to be hand painted with fine sable brushes (mainly a whistle shape) and chiqueteurs. It was super challenging to maintain such drastic difference and shift of colors and still have the marble remain realistic and harmonious. I will post more in depth step by step pictures soon.

Pierre Finkelstein attended the reopening party at the Frick Collection last week. They are now reopened to the public after their newest renovation. Pierre of Grand Illusion was happy to contribute more faux pedestals to match the real marble and wood in the existing collection. Pierre has worked extensively with the @frickcollection and @gettymuseum

Behind the scene images to come!

Pierre Finkelstein of Grand Illusion Decorative Painting was very honored to be included in the Frick Collection renovation. The New York Times paid homage to “the A-team of craftspeople…from Lyon France to Gowanus, Brooklyn” that worked on this historic collection. @gidp_nyc @pgfinkel @frickcollection @nytimes

Pierre of Grand Illusion has contributed many pedestals and restorations over the years at the Frick and Getty Museum. He was pleased to be asked to contribute to the current renovation of the Frick with Faux Marble and Faux Bois pedestals to match the existing collection.

Wrap up of Salon 2024 in Hamburg… Pierre Finkelstein hosted a live trompe l’oeil demo, with an excellent explanation on how to hold and use a Striping Edge and which brushes to use for your striping and 3D effect.
@decorativepaintingsalon @pgfinkel

He also collaborated with Sean Crosby, by painting the frame on Sean’s portrait tribute to his father who passed away recently, wonderful tribute by @sean_crosby65 .
