Not everyday you can skate at your favorite teams practice facility, go to @the_federal_ftl for happy hour, then back home to watch the #winterclassic - little late and we got blown out but #letsgopanthers! Lot of hockey left by @gigalisk

What can I say. We are winners.
There’s a lot of hard work involved.
There’s a lot of hatred.
Hardship. Loss. Pain. Doubt. Disappointment.
All of these things work against the grit of a hockey organization at every level.
I joined as a substitute for #HabanerosHockey. I didn’t know what impact I would be able to make, but I said I would try my best. Then I got called up. Got my sweater. Played hard. Didn’t make it all the way that season.
Picked up some friends. Brought them up with me. Practiced together. Drank LOTS of beers together. Cheered on the @flapanthers together. Still went to that grind every Sunday. Paintballers know where I’m coming from.
Then we got cut short. Again. I got mad. Even hostile. I wanted more out of what I put in. I asked - nah, @btodhunter would say I demanded - to step up to forward. I put up some production this season.
But then we hit some brick walls. Some injuries. And I was put back where I was needed - on defense.
Sometimes you’re not going to be the man of the hour. You’re not going to get the touches. You’re gonna get hurt. You’re going to lose SOMETHING, if not the game. But if you do your job, better than others do theirs, you have a shot. There’s possibilities in the discipline of sports if you never give up. And after all that - after every time you laced up to skate, pretended you were at a game 7 of the @stanleycup finals and it was all on you, the hours late at night that it was just you and your thoughts on the ice, all the travel, the hangovers, the late nights sometimes, missing friends, being lonely - what does that all get you at the end?

This.

This feeling right here, baby. The feeling that hard work really does pay off. The feeling that you have conquered a small mountain of impossibilities. Doing it with your friends from way back and from yesterday. Doing it in front of your family. Doing it for those who couldn’t. And it means the fucking WORLD to me that it’s with this team. But you know what they say right?

RUN THAT SHIT BACK
