🇬🇧 A broken heart. A loss. A debt. A regular bad day...
Music can give people a couple of hours where none of that matters quite so much.
That feels sacred to me.
I was at @ateatuavocanta last summer and we talked about what I believe a musician’s mission is.
Am I right?

🇬🇧 You can't write someone's truth if you don't know what matters to them.
A few conversations gave me a glimpse of a story about coming home, starting again, and still having something left to prove.
That became This Time... words written for someone else to make their own.
What does it take for a song to feel like it's truly yours?

🇬🇧 Confidence doesn't always come from experience. Sometimes, it comes from preparation.
First time singing with these musicians, barely knowing them... But we'd rehearsed. And, for once, I knew what I was walking into.
Funny how much more of yourself you can bring to a performance when you're not busy wondering what's coming next.
How much of stage confidence is talent and how much is preparation?

🇬🇧 In some industries, a meeting is just a meeting. In music, the boundaries aren't always that clear.
We talk a lot about talent, connections and opportunities. Less about what it takes to feel safe enough to pursue them.
Five Rules for Safety: five things I've learned to do when navigating an industry where business and personal life can get tangled.

🇬🇧 If you get it, you get it. 😅
This one's for the guitarists, but it's part of a whole Musicians Collection built around the jokes only musicians really get. Six t-shirt designs so far, with a Pimba Collection for a different kind of musical chaos...
Link in the comments.
if there's a phrase you hear at every rehearsal or gig, tell me. It might end up on a T-shirt.
And DM if you want one.
What should I put on the next one?

🇵🇹 Se percebeste... percebeste. 😅

🇬🇧 Nothing humbles you quite like watching an old performance you once thought was “OK”…
This was a year ago, at a jam with no rehearsal and plenty of things happening that weren't exactly under my control. Back then, it was the best I could do under the circumstances, so I counted it as a win. I knew it wasn't flawless then… but I hear those flaws so much more clearly now...
Do you judge your past self by what you could do then, or by what you can do now?

🇬🇧 You want people talking about your show.
But do you want them filming it?
Artists, audiences and venues don't always want the same thing. That's what makes the phone debate more complicated than “put your phone away” or “film it all.”
Maybe the question isn't whether phones are good or bad. Maybe it's whether we can make them work without ruining the experience.
Where should the line be drawn?

🇬🇧 They say you should never meet your heroes.
I’m glad I ignored that advice.
I was sick. He was one of my favourite artists growing up. And somehow, the man behind the music was every bit as kind as I’d hoped.
This is the final Backstage Story, and I couldn’t have picked a better one to end with.
Have you ever met someone you admired and found them just as lovely in real life?
