🐝 BUZZCUT at Arika Episode 12: From the Rivers to the Seas

BUZZCUT is teaming up with our pals at Arika to hold a BPOC Study Session with Afro-Brazilian thinker Leda Maria Martins, hosted by BUZZCUT Director, Nene Camara.

Leda(@Leda.Maria.Martins) is an Afro-Brazilian thinker and academic whose work throughout the 1980s to today developed ideas around Black theatre in Brazil.

Her work is incredibly influential on Black theatre across South America and the Black Atlantic, and her ideas around embodied knowledges, performance, and Black diasporic culture are both incredibly interesting and useful to artists working today.

This event follows two conversations with Leda at Episode 12 and we suggest attending both to get the most out of the session.

🌀 Routes of Black Theatre in Brazil | T4 | 13 Nov, 1-4.30pm
Leda will discuss Black theatre and performance in Brazil, with Adura Onashile.

🌀 The Curved Time of Memory | T1 | 14 Nov, 7-6.30pm
Leda discussing her philosophical ideas of the social and cultural life of the Black Atlantic beyond theatre, with Pelumi Odubanjo.

🤎 BPOC Study Session with Leda Maria Martins
📅 Sunday 15 November, 10.30am-12noon
📍 Tramway Studio @GlasgowTramway
🎟️ Free, email buzzcutnene@gmail.com to book

🟤 The study session is intended as a safer space for artists and art workers who identify as BPOC to unpack and digest Leda’s ideas with her in a smaller, more informal setting.

Attendance of both talks are free for anyone attending the study group, but there is limited space.

💜💛 This event is part of Arika, Episode 12: From the Rivers to the Seas

In a world that is becoming increasingly polarised, RAGE & EUPHORIA offers participants a space to reclaim their autonomy by channelling their emotions productively. Who is vilified for expressing their rage, and where is their space to express it? What happens if we do not let it go? How can this manifest in us and in society? by @glasgowbuzzcut

🐝 Huge thanks to everyone who came to BUZZCUT Festival 2026! ✂️

We were blown away by the enthusiasm, generosity, and care of everyone who attended, and we want to extend a huge thank you to every one of you.

💗 We also need to express our gratitude to each of our artists, collaborators, partners, and the extended BUZZCUT Festival team.

As an organisation we want to continue to adapt, grow, and develop. We use audience feedback to shape our programme and approach – if you attended any of our events throughout the festival we’d love it if you could fill in our audience reflections questionnaire.

💸 As an added incentive we’ve set aside a £50 cash prize for one lucky audience member!

🗞️ Dispatch from Studio Somewhere: Do It Together edition!

As part of @thisisliveart’s Do It Together (DIT) project, we collaborated with @glasgowbuzzcut to host Gillie Kleiman’s project Disciplined.

As part of the project, Gillie and a cohort worked together over BUZZCUT festival - they dug into the assumptions around Discipline: with conversation, hands-on experimentation and spending time with the amazing BUZZCUT programme together.

Gratitude to everyone who brought their (undisciplined!) thinking, honesty and generosity to the project.

🐝 NEW PERFORMANCE ANNOUNCEMENT! ✂️

🍷 Sweetmud
Beloved Sara Zaltash
(@BelovedSaraZaltash)

Sweetmud is a durational solo performance that moves through cycles of prohibition, transgression, and longing. Informed by their experiences as a British-Iranian girl shaped by religion, cultural expectation and rock’n’roll desire.

Seven actions repeat in a continuous loop: sweeping coal dust; marking difference; ecstatic rebellion; wine cleansing; prayer whirling; fall; and redress. Through these cycles, Zaltash inhabits the female body as a target for idealised mytho-poetics in which oppression and transgression coexist.

📅Fri 17 April, 5.20 - 7.20pm

✊How can the performing arts sector respond to the right-wing currents in our political moment?

We’re excited to announce Art Fighting Fascism, a presentation and panel discussion curated by @MoonSlideArts for BUZZCUT Festival.

In recent years the political climate both nationally and internationally has shifted drastically – attacks, agendas, and censorial campaigns from the political right can be felt across the sector.

Join us for an open conversation which seeks to ask; is the performing arts sector facing this as it should? Are we satisfied with ourselves? And, through thinking collaboratively, what can we do moving forward?

🌀Featuring…
Suzi Cunningham (Lead Artist @MoonSlidArts & @suzi.vc)
Angela Adams-Gray (Director @Articulation)
Lucy Medlycott (Director @ISACSIreland)

🕯️forgive me, Lorde, for I am not a warrior
@SymStellium

Sym will call upon our Trans and Queer ancestors – channeling energies of courage, experimentation, and the erotic. Join them to commune, share, and attempt to find ways of enduring these times together.

Using Audre Lorde’s ‘Uses of the Erotic’ as a grounding force – Sym re-centers notions of trans embodied presence and eroticism, through the ability to show up wholly and feel deeply, in both lamentation and joy.

Join us for a ceremony of (self)possession – held in St Ninians Church – as we look back and bear witness to the struggles our ancestors lived and died through. Tapping into a wisdom that existed long before us.

🌊 El mar entre nostros (the sea between us)
Margot Conde Arenas (@MargotCondeArenas)

Drawing on autobiographical experiences of movement, memories of ancestors, and of Latin American and European multicultural existence, Margot Conde Arenas explores the archive of water.

Led by a lyrical voice interplaying with the performer’s own – she responds in abstract movement, interacting with the video projection and text as she becomes fluid like water.

Exploring somatic expressions of internal relationships to diaspora(s), moving to find belonging in her body (of water), and experimenting with the melding of language and music from different cultures.
