[SOLD] "Strawberry Cake 1" was inspired by the cake slices I saw at JJ Bakery (a Taiwanese bakery) growing up. It was my favorite sweet treat-- I think, a lot of sweet treats are delicious! 🍰

But there's something to be noticed about the memories that food brings. Aside from the emotions and stories, it's also fun to hear people talk about the texture of foods they've experienced. The Piece of Cake series takes that a bit literally, zooming in on the textures. And yes, different cakes have different textures! These strawberry cakes always seemed a little more spongey to me than what the average American strawberry shortcake is.

Did you have a favorite dessert growing up?

This piece took some trial and error to get where I wanted. There were some techniques I was trying out for the first time and other things just didn't come out the way I wanted. It's easy to crash out when things didn't end up like how I pictured in my head or get frustrated at the idea of starting over. But this time, I pushed through!

I was laser focused on getting this one done. Progress pics will show the evolution and trials for this avocado toast: from the color and shaping the avocado mash, the color, structure, and remaking of the tomatoes, or even just board placement.

I'm trying to be better about progress pics. These I have because sometimes, taking a picture of your work and reviewing it through the camera can help you be more objective than reviewing the piece directly!

Also made a USDA PRIME gift tag and Information label sticker to go with the "butcher paper" wrapping (it's upcycled package void-filler). Label sticker is populated with [redacted] birthday details and "Safe Handling Instructions" that are accurate to this chunk of meat. As per usual, DO NOT EAT 🚫

These are 乖乖 (Guai Guai) chips! Guai Guai literally means 'behave,' and many machines house a bag of these on top, in Taiwan.

I’m turning this icon into an art piece as a gift for my partner. Manifesting that his code always compiles 💻✨️

New texture unlocked! I've finished a new cake painting, Red Velvet. The texture for red velvet take is pretty different from shortcake or spongecake, in my experience, so I wanted to go for a different approach when painting this. What do you think?

Sauce packet ACEOs! I was really happy when I finished the packets originally and got excited to get to the sauce textures, but then my heavy gel was somehow not heavy enough. It self-leveled more than I expected, but I guess it's because my prior uses were in bigger gloops than this sauce execution.

Kinda a bummer! And the honey texture... mannnn that did not end up how I wanted it 😭

But that's okay I guess. The beauty of ACEOs is the practice I get and the mitigated crash outs since it's not a big piece I destroyed lol by @gluecose.art

If you can’t resist touching textured art, look away now. 🤤 I’ve been working on a mini menu of 5 Asian snack classics, all textured and painted with acrylic mediums on ACEO canvas cards. My first ACEO drop!!

The menu:
🦐 Spring Rolls (that translucent sticky rice paper)
🫘 Sesame Ball (every single seed + glossy red bean paste filling)
🍙 Onigiri (matte nori vs. glossy umeboshi plum)
🐟 Fish Strips (shredded strips)
🧅 Green Onion Pancake (all the flaky, crispy edges)

These 5 one-of-a-kind originals are on eBay! Link is in my bio

Tried my hand at my first ACEOs, just in time to catch the end of #aapimonth. I'll release these soon, if anyone is interested!

These were pretty fun to make and I got to trial a few new techniques that I've been sitting on. Unfortunately, my Tanghulu ACEO didn't make it, because that experiment failed. But that's kinda the point of these little pieces to me! Trying what works, testing new ideas, and getting in quick doodles to keep the creativity flowing.

I really enjoyed making these, I forgot how fun just drawing and painting is. Been sculpting and texture painting so much lately, but those are a different experience than just drawing and painting.
