thanks to @fox_from_a_meadow and @charsquire for curating the show and making it all happen!

well done to the @camp_membership artists whose work came together around the theme of our past and future relationships with the other-than-human;

We’ve been looking at @camp_membership’s Before & After; Fragments of Origin, chatting to curators Dana Aala and Charlotte Squire about this thought-provoking exhibition exploring our relationship with the world around us.

And with @plymartwkndr just around the corner, now is the perfect time to discover it for yourself!

✨ There’s even more happening over the weekend, with live performances, poetry and some wonderfully unusual creative experiences:

🌦️ Saturday 17 October
12pm – @lauradenning2 presents The Tarot of the Weather, exploring weather, kinship and our connection to nature through a fascinating set of cards.

2pm – Mark Leahy @gmarkleahy performs Cream of the Crop, combining spoken word, movement and performance to explore climate, agriculture and our relationship with the natural world.

🌿 Sunday 18 October
3pm – Poetry from Caroline Collingridge, reflecting on ancient wisdom and the impact of climate change.

The exhibition is already open, so don’t wait until the weekend to visit! But if you’re heading out to explore Plymouth Art Weekender, make sure this one is on your list.

📅 On until Sunday 18 October – last chance this weekend!

🎥 Watch our chat with Dana and Charlotte for a little taste of what to expect.

Swim Litany: a score and a performance

Swimming is something that I do, it is part of my life, and I fit it around other things – weather, work, travel, health. Senses of rhythm, of repetition, of the social activity of swimming are evident in the printed poster and in performance. Interruptions to the rhythm and variations in the text record the impact of the rest of life on my swimming, while the writing acknowledges my appreciation of access to safe water and my physical ability to swim regularly.

Performance:
1800hrs (6.00pm) on Thursday 27th August 2026
at 37 Looe Street, Plymouth, PL4 0DQ
as part of the Bathing Places exhibition.

Swim Litany is a visual text and spoken word score published as an A3 poster. One side presents a range of information sourced from diary records of my swims from mid-summer 2025 to mid-summer 2026. This data includes references to place, to bodies of water, to those I swam with. On the other side textual material is organised into three areas, each section having a different character, with the potential for performance by one, three, or more voices.

For a live event on August 27th, a group of performers will read from the text, their voices mixing, blending, bumping against each other as they navigate the three sections. Rhythm, repetition, overlap and silence will depend on the character of the sections, and the speakers' responses to the words and to each other.

Performance:
1800hrs (6.00pm) on Thursday 27th August 2026 at 37 Looe Street, Plymouth, PL4 0DQ as part of the Bathing Places exhibition.

Great to see the Jamie Mills @silenceinseeing exhibition A Firework for Vincent @animamundigallery in St Ives ... beautiful installation, rooms of quiet concentrated energy, folded and stitched and layered materials in a pallette of powders and dust, greys and sepia, chalk and lead. And in the attic a gathering of slung and stacked and ordered forms wrapped in a humming drone.

Image is of 'The Hermit' a sculptural relief in fabric, rubber, metal, bone and other materials.
