The vertical lines stretching across the water are thousands of bamboo poles anchored into the muddy seabed, used by local aquafarmers to cultivate laver (nori/seaweed) and kelp.

As the tide recedes, the exposed mudflats reveal intricate patterns, making this dynamic coastal ecosystem one of the most celebrated landscapes for black-and-white photography.

The Tradition of Net Drying ;

In the coastal mudflats and river inlets of Xiapu, China, local fishermen historically used massive silk and fine-mesh nets to harvest small sea life, shrimp, and seaweed.

To prevent rot and maintain the structural integrity of these large nets, fishermen regularly suspend them high above shallow waters on long bamboo poles to dry in the coastal breeze.
