Tbis feels heavy to write. But for a long time now, I have felt that this is no longer a place for me. I don't want to produce fast content and chase likes. I am sick of reels, ads and a feed that does not show those I follow. There is no community for me here anymore. I combine photography with text in the hopes of inspiring, evoking thoughts and reflections or to educate about nature. I feel I can't, don't want to, do it here. Especially not when Meta keeps pushing AI down our throats and continue to try and roll out updates that allows it to train on what I have created, with skills honed for decades. No thank you. Subscribe to my newsletter on Substack or connect with me on LinkedIn if you want to stay in touch or follow my work, link in profile ⬆️ For close friends that want to chat, I use Signal. DM if you want to connect. To everyone I've met here, and all the brands I've had the opportunity to work with - thank you 🙏🏽🤎 Substack and YouTube is what I will focus on now, and of course freelance work as an outdoor photographer and communicator. See you amongst trees and ferns! Live slow, stay wild //Rania by @grainandfern
Nature, what an artist you are. These colors and textures are unreal! Lichen & moss on a log in our garden, but it could almost just as easily have been a coral reef underwater. Magical ✨️ I wish people could truly See nature. You don't need more stuff to be happy. Just go outside, slow down and be aware. It's amazing, and it's alive. 📷 OM-5 + 60mm F2.8 Macro #omsystemcameras #cameranatura #lichen #naturfotograferna #putyourselfoutthere by @grainandfern
The fieldfare [turdus pilaris] has been feasting on rowan berries all week 🍂 Did you know birds often wait to eat rowan until a frost? Freezing the berries breaks down complex starches & reduces bitterness, making them softer, sweeter & easier to digest. 📷 OM-3 + M.Zuiko 40-150mm paired with MC-20 #cameranatura #birdlife_europe #naturfotograferna #omsystemcameras #omsystemom3 by @grainandfern
I love being by water: Fog dancing across a lake, a dark forest tarn or babbling brook, it's beautiful! Being IN it? Less enjoyable, but educational! Through school we were tasked with finding invertebrates in a creek / river. It was cold and challenging, and I definitely prefer plants and mammals. But water, and all it's life, is vital for the health of our landscapes and biodiversity! And I got see 4 big trout travel silently up the river which was an amazing experience ✨️ Big thank you to Dan, my best friend & partner, for the company, note taking & photos 🤎 #landskapsvetare #biodiversity #cameranatura #omsystemcameras #putyourselfoutthere by @grainandfern
We've let the thistles run wild along the edge of our property. The beautiful purple flowers feeding the butterflies all summer, and birds like the European Goldfinch come fall and winter. When we 'clean up' in nature, we remove habitats that offer food, shelter and homes for our fellow beings we share this round home with. As it grows ever colder, food is scarce and these dry, to us now 'ugly flowers offer much needed substance. Especially so once snow falls. So, let it be a little wild and messy. It's OK. It's natural. #liveslowstaywild #naturvård #natureconservation #naturalist #birdlife by @grainandfern
In between full time university studies I try to balance some freelance work with hobbies and downtime. This fall, mushroom picking has been a big one. It's important to me to be out in nature, and I absolutely love foraging. This feeds my energy and inspiration 🍂 It does a lot for my mental health too. One way to support my journey, if you enjoy what I do, is to treat me to a virtual coffee ☕️ Simply visit: 》buymeacoffee.com/grainandfern Thank you! Remember to live slow & stay wild 🤎 #putyourselfoutthere #foraging #mushroaming #omsystemom3 #omsystemcameras by @grainandfern
Reflections of fall 🍂 This was an absolutely magical day and I am grateful I happened to be out with my camera when fall colors, light and stillness of water all aligned ✨️ 》 OM-3 + M.Zuiko 17mm & 40-150mm #ruska #autumnvibes #höst #putyourselfoutthere by @grainandfern
It feels like food foraged in the wild is supposed to be cooked outside, with flame and smoke. This fall I was SO happy to see that my dream grill was available at @hillceramic, together with a bunch of things I already own from my favorite brand for harvesting & cooking wild food: Barebones. // sponsored post in collaboration with @hillceramic Slowly making my dream outdoor kitchen happen, this is the first step. It's huge so when there's a bigger group, a lot can be cooked at once. The grid can be raised to keep things warm, and I absolutely love having tools and herbs hanging, ready at my disposal. Cooking on this grill was such a joy, and having gathered mushrooms in the forest and herbs from my garden, it tasted so so good and like I'd actually earned it. People always BBQ in the summer, but autumn is when you actually want to be by a warm fire 🍂 Oh and when you're done cooking? Well this grill can have the legs easily shortened and turn into a fire pit to sit around. Right now it's 34% off at @hillceramic so go check it out if you also love cooking outside and over fire 🔥 I can't wait to take groups into nature to talk about ecology, wild food, sustainability and photography and then gather around this for a lovely meal and more great conversations. Fire talks are some of the best. #outdoorcooking #wildfood #sponsoredpost #cookingoverfire #utemat by @grainandfern
Autumn is truly here, look at these colors! 😍 🍂 by @grainandfern
This evening surprised me with an unreal meeting. I never thought I'd see a lynx in the wild, let alone get so close. Unbelievable that I had my camera in the backseat. Wow. What a beautiful creature. OM-3 + M.Zuiko 40-150mm & 2x teleconverter #liveslowstaywild #cameranatura #naturfotograferna #omsystemcameras #omsystemom3 by @grainandfern
This has, without a doubt, been one of the best experiences this fall: to join my local bird community and learn about bird ringing 🐦‍⬛ Read more in my field journal: grainandfern.substack.com (link in profile) #ringmärkning #birdringing #birdlife_europe #omsystemcameras #cameranatura by @grainandfern
A few weeks ago we visited a Nature Reserve near us, and it is very clear after visiting this place, that when we protect an area by leaving it alone, life thrives.
