The Alhraed have long dwelt beneath the sands of Sunia, where the sun’s mercy does not reach and the wind carries the taste of dust and bitter memory. They were not always bound to the deep. Once, they came from Realm Padrigan on Xenus, a people proud and unbroken. But pride fades under hunger, and freedom is easily traded when the promise of survival is the prized currency. Now, the Alhraed harvest what others cannot—drawing water from the bones of the earth, coaxing life out of desolation. Their skill is revered, their labor essential, yet they are treated as tools rather than men. In the catacombs where they toil terrible creatures of judgement and death lurk in the shadows. Still, the Alhraed endure. They always have.

There are whispers that endurance is no longer enough. Some among them have begun to speak of a different kind of thirst—the kind that water cannot quench. They wish for light, for sky, for the right to call their world their own again. In Padrigan, a few dare to speak on their behalf, saying the Alhraed should no longer serve but stand beside them as equals. It is a dangerous dream, one that Sunia will not surrender easily. I have lived long enough to know that every empire, no matter how vast or certain, trembles when the lowliest of its people begins to believe they were never meant to crawl. Perhaps the Alhraed will rise. Perhaps they will fall.

But even the deepest well can overflow—when the water beneath remembers it was once a river.

The Typhons were a family men still speak of in lowered voices, though most will swear it is reverence and not the sting of envy that makes them do it. In the days before the Khodabakshians crowned themselves masters of Realm Libertina, before the Celestiad Royalis learned to hide its fractures beneath ceremony and polished gold, the galaxy was little more than a fevered brawl—quarrelsome realms clawing at crowns none of them had the discipline to bear. Then the Typhons rose, and for a brief, startling age the worlds remembered what order looked like. They did not coax the empire into being; they took it in hand like a wayward child and forced it to stand straight. The lesser houses scrambled to shape themselves in the Typhon image afterward. The Khodabakshians came nearest, for ambition and ruthlessness are a potent pair. The Barbas made their attempt too, though they wore greatness as awkwardly as children draped in their mother’s silks.

Yet power of that sort does not vanish because a bloodline wanes. The Typhons died out, yes—blood dries, banners fall, and every dynasty meets its winter. What mattered was the legacy they left buried behind them: vaults sealed so tightly even emperors wonder what sleeps within; machines and lore no scholar can wholly decipher; weapons that vanished the moment the Typhon sigil ceased to fly. The Royalis pretends it inherited all that was worth inheriting. It did not. The galaxy remembers who carved its bones and set its laws in motion; even the shadows remember. And shadows, unlike courtiers, are not quick to betray their old loyalties. Some houses blaze bright and die with a spark. Others linger in the corners of history—watching, waiting—knowing the day will come when the imitators choke on their own pride, and the true heirs of power return to claim what was always meant for them.

To sit once more upon a throne crowned in gold, and to wield starfire as their fathers did.

There are customs in this galaxy that a mother would rather not look too closely at, yet they persist all the same. Among the Hesperian realms—and now far beyond them—there exists a tradition called the maid in waiting. Young women, taken from every corner of a world, brought into service beneath the highborn they are sworn to attend. They dress them, guard their secrets, hold their tears—and bind their own lives to the regals they serve. For a maid in waiting cannot wed, cannot even dream of such freedoms, until the noblewoman she tends is wed herself. Their futures are loaned, not owned, and all in the name of preserving some ancient notion of purity, decorum, or favor in the eyes of the great.

Yet the truth, whispered behind closed doors, is thornier than the ceremony makes it seem. These maids are meant to shield their mistresses from temptation, to absorb the desires and indiscretions of the powerful long before vows or crowns come into play. It is a burden no girl should have to bear, and one the regals are all too willing to let them carry. When at last the wedding banners rise and the noble bride assumes her place, the maids in waiting are released—free, as they say, to marry and live as they choose. But years of service carve their own chains, and freedom granted late is a freedom scarred. In every court that keeps them, I see the same quiet truth:

The maids in waiting give more of themselves than any realm will ever give back.

Realm Ingallis has been called many things over the long ages of Xenus, but the name that endures—whispered in halls, carved in stone, muttered by men who should know better—is the cradle of kings. Children learn it before they learn their prayers, and rulers across centuries have carried some echo of its blood. The land itself feels steeped in old sovereignty, as if the soil remembers every crown ever planted upon it. The rivers run thick with memory, and the wind carries the scent of iron, oaths, and expectation. The men of Ingallis grow up beneath that weight. Pride is their birthright, leadership their inheritance. Their sons have claimed more thrones than any realm dares to tally; their rare daughters have ruled with a severity that made even their brothers tread softly. Even now, long after their line has nearly vanished from the high throne, the people speak as though royalty were a mantle the world momentarily misplaced.

Yet prophecy coils through Ingallis like a patient serpent. The elders speak of it only when the fire burns low, when shadows lengthen and truth feels close enough to touch: When the last king of Ingallis rises, the world will shift upon its axis. Whether it will turn toward dawn or fall into ruin, none can say. Perhaps both. Prophecies care little for the hopes of men. What matters is the promise of change so profound it will leave the skies trembling. They say the final chapter of Ingallis will be written in starfire and smoke, and the land will roar with such fury the heavens themselves will listen. Some hold the tale as warning, others as benediction—but all remember it. And perhaps that memory is what keeps the realm dangerous still, for a people shaped by crowns rarely surrender the habit of command.

A kingdom born of rulers does not easily forget its legacy.

Nor do those who spring from its soil learn quickly how to kneel.

Realm Ram is the heart of Xenus—that’s what they call it, and they’re right to. It’s the largest of all the realms, wide as the world’s own breath, where the fields never end and the drums never still. The people there are many—farmers, smiths, herders, healers—retainers and commoners alike, all bound by the same earth that raised them. They say the soil of Ram still remembers what the world was before the Empire came—before gold and crowns and ships in the sky. The land here breathes pure. You can feel it in the wind, in the warmth of the sun, in the steady pulse beneath your feet. The Ramfolk guard that purity like blood, proud and unyielding, even as the Empire’s banners creep across their borders. They trade, they sing, they adapt—but they never kneel.

Ram isn’t rich with palaces or fleets; its strength is its people. Hard folk, honest folk—too stubborn to forget who they are. The other realms might chase power or favor, but Ram carries something older—something sacred. They say it’s the last realm still in rhythm with the beating heart of the world. Maybe that’s why the Empire covets it so much, and why even their influence can’t quite take root. For when the heart of the world beats, all Xenus feels it. And if it ever falters, the world will know it’s dying.

Realm Sariad was never crafted by kings or consecrated by an empire. It wasn’t built — it spilled into existence, the way a flask of acid spills when the bottle finally cracks. When Realm Urgen devoured itself two centuries ago—helped along, some whisper, by rival realms eager to watch it rot—the remains didn’t die. They scattered. They fled. And where they landed, Sariad rose like a bruise across the Outer Realms.

It is a patchwork realm of the unwanted and the ungoverned: smugglers with more scars than skin, cutthroat captains, slavers and flesh peddlers, deserters who know too much, mercenary clans who bow to no crown, and entire races exiled for sins the empire no longer remembers. Every vulture in the galaxy found a perch here. Every criminal found a sanctuary. Every monster found a home. The lords of Sariad—wild, vicious, unpredictable—rule scraps of land for as long as blood, gold, and fear allow it. Tomorrow another will replace them. The realm breathes treachery; it dies and is reborn each dusk.

And in the darkest warrens of Sariad dwell the ones everyone fears most: the blade-carriers of the Death Goddess. They walk quietly, marked by her sigil and her oath, and if one ever finds you, it means a single truth—some power, somewhere, has decided that today is the last day you deserve to keep breathing.

The Valiants—the Empire’s prettiest lies or ugliest truth, depending on how honest your feeling. They’re chosen by the Gold Crown himself, handpicked like prized warhorses, then locked into armor that isn’t so much worn as fused to them. Trillient Blue powers it which makes it just expensive enough to bankrupt small realms and rare enough to start wars. Not mere metal, the thing, no—something older, hungrier, clever enough to breathe with its bearer and hum when it spills blood. And spills it—it does.

When a Valiant shows up on your world it isn't a visit; It's a warning. The Empire’s patience has run out and some wretch somewhere is about to pay for it. You can dress it up in ceremony and banners or whatever you like, but the truth is plain: someone is about to die with remarkably deadly efficiency.

Once, they were the galaxy’s darlings—heroes in legend, knights cast in living steel. Children dreamed of becoming them; mothers prayed they would. But time blunts everything, even legends. Now the Valiants keep the peace the way a seasoned killer “keeps order”—cleanly, decisively, and without a shred of sentiment. Some still cling to their oaths, the poor fools. Bless them. Others have fallen in love with the armor's whisper: Power without question. In the end, you can’t tell either of them apart in the dark, the savior or the slaughterer and that's the point I suppose. The Empire calls them protectors. Perhaps they were—are.

But I’ve known enough men with weapons to recognize this much: a protector looks very much like a butcher when he stops asking questions.

They call him the Shadoma—Emperor of Shadowyn, Lord of Shaelstone—and the courtiers kneel as if the title still carries the terror it once did. But he rules over ghosts now, more memory than empire, for Shadowyn is a remnant of an age when night itself had fangs. In those forgotten days the Shadowcasters shaped darkness as if it were clay, calling it forth, weaving it, breathing it like a second soul. Across the world, the Lightbinders answered with brilliance fierce enough to scorch the very dusk. That ancient rivalry cracked continents, toppled dynasties, and burned its story into the bones of Eudosis. Five thousand years have passed since then, long enough for sand to swallow battlefields and for truth to fade into legend. The gifts of shadow and light have thinned to nothing, leaving only people—tired soldiers, brittle nobility, survivors of a divine feud whose cause they can no longer name.

And yet, hatred is a patient thing. It sleeps, but not soundly. Every few generations it turns in its grave—a purge in one province, a raid in another, old blood spilled for reasons no one living understands. The wars flare and gutter out, and the world convinces itself the embers have finally died. They never do. So the Shadoma keeps his vigil in Shaelstone, seated in a hall where no torches burn, watching the horizon where Lightwynn’s distant glow still pricks the dark like an insult. He rules not by fear, nor by power—those have both grown thin—but by memory, heavy as winter and just as enduring. The magic is gone, the age of wonders ended, yet the shadow remembers what the world forgets.

For as the flame is bright, the shadow is dark.

Realm Zohar of Gallinon has a way of announcing itself before anyone dares speak the name aloud—like a cold wind that whispers you should mind your footing. The wise lower their voices when they mention it, not out of trembling fear (well… not just fear), but because even the proudest fool knows better than to mock something carved so deeply into the bones of the galaxy. They call Zohar the Mighty Hand, and for once a title fits perfectly. Its soldiers are drawn from the Four Quarters of Gallinon, shaped by traditions older than most realms’ founding myths, drilled with a discipline so strict it begins to look like faith. Strength hammered into them, cunning drilled into them, survival etched into every breath—they march like men who have passed every test worth failing.

Walk among them—assuming you’ve suddenly lost all sense—and you’ll notice something refreshing: no preening, no swagger, no chest-thumping. They carry themselves like fine steel wrapped in linen—quiet, elegant, and far more dangerous because of it. The Celestiad Royalis may command the realms, but on the field of war, it’s Zohar’s hand that tightens around the throat of one's fate. A single legion can tilt a campaign before anyone realizes the battle's even begun. Its been said armies have surrendered at the rumor of their advance; and those who didn’t soon wish they had. Their victories aren’t loud or chaotic—they’re precise, immaculate things, executed by a people who understand that war is less about glory, blood and starfire; it is an art and craftsmanship.

If a man wishes to challenge Realm Zohar, he is welcome to write his own obituary ahead of time. The wiser sort know better. Some forces burn bright and loud… Others?

Well they simply close their hand around you and end the conversation.

The Divinity looks splendid from a distance—most things do. High above Chalice, in the polished sanctum of Waxhall, the Faith Father sits on his marble throne, glowing like a star that’s forgotten it’s made of fire and not innocence. The faithful call him chosen by the Light Above, a man too holy for mortal weakness. But that’s the thing about light: it blinds you to the shadows it creates. Step close enough, and you start to hear the quieter stories—councils held in back rooms, revelations trimmed to suit the moment, sanctity traded as easily as coin. None of it is new. Wherever men claim to speak for gods, there’s always someone willing to decide what the gods “really meant.”

And yet, not all within the Divinity are so conveniently corrupted. A few stubborn souls cling to their faith as if it’s the last honest thing left in a dishonest world. They believe the Light Above still listens, still cares, even as the institution bearing its name sinks deeper into its own reflection. They walk through Waxhall with clear eyes and clean hands, serving truth in a place where truth is often a choice in the dark. Perhaps that’s why the Divinity endures—not because it’s pure, but because a handful of men and women inside it refuse to let the rot win. Fragile things survive all the time—not by strength, but by the sheer audacity of those who believe they’re still worth protecting.

The Navigators—once the pride of the stars, now little more than the ghosts drifting between them. In the old days, the Empire couldn’t praise them loudly enough. Heroes of discovery, master cartographers, the men and women who stitched the galaxy together with ink, instinct, and a talent no court could ever counterfeit. Every route they charted became a lifeline, every map a quiet promise that the Celestiad Royalis trusted them more than any admiral. And that, of course, was the problem. Kings don’t sleep well when someone else knows the roads better than they do. One Gold Crown—jittery, insecure, drunk on the sound of his own authority—declared the Navigators outlaws. Their charts were seized, their guilds shattered, their ships hunted down like criminals. In the end, their only crime was seeing farther than the throne ever could.

Three emperors later, the galaxy paid the price for that vanity. Trade routes lost, fleets wandering blind, entire worlds starving because a long-dead tyrant couldn’t stomach the thought of someone else knowing more. Eventually, the Royalis bent the brow and begged the Navigators to come back. A few did—loyal, naïve, or simply desperate. The rest had vanished into the void, too wise or too bitter to trust a crown twice. Those who remain now are scattered and sharp-edged, selling their knowledge to anyone who has the coin and the guts to ask—barons, smugglers, priests, pirates. The Empire likes to pretend it still holds their leashes. It doesn’t. No one commands a Navigator. They owe allegiance only to the stars themselves.

Once outlaws, now legends, they drift at the edge of every map—drawing new lines in defiance of every crown that ever tried to claim the heavens. And every line they draw is a reminder: the stars belong to those who dare them, not to those who a wear a gold rock on their heads.

The Celestines were a mighty house once, or so the old tales say. Their bloodline stretches back to Aurora Celestine herself—the woman who, if the chroniclers aren’t lying through their ink-stained teeth, bent all three continents of Xenosis under her rule. Not through diplomacy, mind you—through sheer force of presence. In her day, the Celestines didn’t ask for obedience; they expected it. And the world delivered. Their banners crowned continents, their decisions shaped centuries, and their enemies usually ended the way all sensible enemies do: quiet.

But time has a talent for humiliating dynasties. The Celestines have dwindled since Aurora’s age—thinned by politics, softened by peace, outmaneuvered by hungrier families. They remain, yes, but as the echo of a roar, not the beast that made it. Revered, respected, occasionally romanticized… but scarcely feared. Still, there’s that prophecy whispered in courts and tribes alike: Xenosis will follow when Realm Celestine rises once more. And prophecies—well, they’re like debts. Everyone pretends they’re forgotten until the day they’re not. The family’s influence may be a fraction of what it was, but names like theirs have a way of slipping back into power when the world least expects it.

And if the Celestines truly are stirring again… the continents might yet remember what it was like to bend the brow.
