Eight! ❀️ How lucky we are to be the ones who get to watch you grow. You bring so much laughter, silliness and joy into our world. Your curious mind, cheeky humour, big personality and those moments when you still just want a cuddle make you so incredibly special. Watching you learn, grow, discover new things and embrace the adventures life brings has been one of our greatest privileges. We are so grateful for the little person you are and all the happiness you bring to our family. Never lose that beautiful sense of wonder, your sense of humour or your love for life's little adventures. Happy 8th birthday, mate. We love you more than you'll ever know and are so proud to be your mum and dad. ❀️ #EightYearsLoved #BirthdayBoy #OurLittleAdventure #GrowingUpTooFast #FamilyFirst by @grassisgreenerau
And just like that, it's the night before you turn 8! πŸ₯Ή Our little tradition of taking photos the night before your birthday, capturing one last moment of being the age you are before you wake up a year older. How are we already here? ❀️ Happy last night of being 7! πŸ₯° #birthdaytradition #familytradition #thenightbeforeyouare8 #birthdayweekend #mumandson by @grassisgreenerau
6 years down, plenty of adventures behind us and some pretty exciting ones ahead. Wouldn't have it any other way. Happy anniversary to us πŸ₯‚ #weddedbliss #6yearsmarried #wedding anniversary #herestomanymore by @grassisgreenerau
πŸ“Cape Keraudren What an incredible little stop this turned out to be! We met some absolutely amazing new mates over our 5 nights here, spent our days parked up on the beach, watching the kids explore and just taking in everything this beautiful place had to offer (even though the mornings were incredibly windy!) The boys found crabs and fish in the inlet, we took the boat out and managed to catch a few little ones ourselves 🎣 Plus we were lucky enough to spot a sea snake and turtles out on the water 🐒 Stunning beaches, crystal-clear water, beach camping and great company… definitely one of those places we won’t forget. πŸ’™ We loved it so much we decided to return a few weeks later but will post about that part of our travels later on (it was quite the adventure!) #CapeKeraudren #seewesternaustralia #travellingfamilies #westisbest #fulltimetravel by @grassisgreenerau
A pretty special week in Karratha 🀍 We set up in a mate's backyard for the week, and Lucas spent a few days helping @elieastley207 out with some work. It's one of the things we love most about travelling this way. We get to move around Australia, but we're also able to stop, lend a hand and spend time with good people along the way. Then came the unexpected highlight… We were incredibly lucky to be invited out on their boat for a day exploring the Dampier Archipelago 🚀 If you've never seen it, the archipelago is made up of dozens of islands and rocky outcrops scattered along the Pilbara coast. The contrast is incredible - rugged red-brown rock, white sandy beaches and that ridiculously blue-green Pilbara water. The boys and Lucas got in for a snorkel and saw some massive fish 🐠 We pulled up on an island for a swim and a play, then headed down a creek to explore and see what we could find. And of course, Barry had to come along too πŸ˜‚ It was his first ever time on a boat, and he absolutely loved it. He was completely in his element. Another one of those days that wasn't really planned, but somehow ends up being one of the memories we'll talk about for years. This is the kind of travel we love. ❀️ Thanks so much for having us Eli and Alannah! by @grassisgreenerau
Another week on the road! Cape Keraudren ➑️ Barn Hill ➑️ Broome This was actually a pretty standard week for us at $1,688, but there's a bit more to some of these numbers... πŸ•οΈ Accommodation – $415 This one always hurts. We didn't free camp at all this week, so we paid for accommodation every night. When you're used to finding cheap or free spots, it definitely makes a difference! β›½ Fuel – $337 Just the cost of moving four people and a caravan around this beautiful country. πŸ›οΈ Shopping – $222 Mostly Lucas needing some new clothes. Apparently travelling full-time doesn't mean you can avoid buying clothes forever. πŸ˜‚ πŸ’†β€β™€οΈ Health & Wellbeing – $141 The usual mix of things that come up throughout the month, scripts, private health etc... πŸ“± Subscriptions – $101 There's apparently some sort of app involved with the boat's sounder... πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‚ Lucas would probably explain this better! 🍺 Alcohol – $82 Actually pretty good for us! πŸ™Œ πŸ›’ Groceries – $79 And THIS is why we had that massive stock-up week before heading remote. We bought a month's worth of meat and stocked up on everything we needed, so this week we barely needed to buy groceries at all. 🚐 Car/Van Maintenance – $90 Maintenance items for our compost toilet 🚻 πŸ” Eating Out – $77 Not too bad considering we were travelling and out and about. 🎟️ Activities – $75 And this one was a no-brainer - The boys LOVE Muster Dogs on ABC, and Rex from the latest season is from Barn Hill and runs a show there. We were staying there... so obviously we couldn't pass up the chance to go and see him! πŸ•β€οΈ 🐢 Pets – $69 Food and treats for Bazza. TOTAL: $1,688 πŸ’Έ Not our cheapest week, but definitely not one of our crazy ones either. #lapofaustralia #travel costs #travel budget #caravanningwithkidsaustralia #truecostoftravel by @grassisgreenerau
πŸ›’ Prep weeks always look expensive... This week we travelled from Karratha to Cape Keraudren, and before heading somewhere with limited supplies, we had to stock up. Especially because we weren't sure how long it would be before we get to Broome (weather gods be good to us!) It definitely wasn't a "normal" grocery shop. πŸ˜… A few things that blew the budget: β€’ πŸ₯© Groceries included around a month's worth of meat from the butcher, plus enough food to get us through about two weeks between towns. β€’ β›½ Fuel was higher than usual with the longer distances and filling up before leaving town. β€’ 🍺 We stocked up on drinks knowing there wouldn't be many opportunities to buy more. β€’ πŸ›οΈ Shopping was mostly those bits and pieces you remember you need before heading somewhere remote. Once you spread those costs across the next couple of weeks, it doesn't feel quite so painful! This week's total: β›½ Fuel – $680 πŸ›’ Groceries – $591 πŸ›οΈ Shopping – $361 🍺 Alcohol – $289 πŸ’†β€β™€οΈ Health & Wellbeing – $154 πŸ” Eating Out – $147 🚐 Car/Van Maintenance – $121 πŸ•οΈ Accommodation – $107 πŸ“‘ Phone & Starlink – $95 πŸ“Ί Subscriptions – $7 Sometimes a big spend now means spending a whole lot less later. πŸ™Œ #travelmaths by @grassisgreenerau
A few slow days at Carawine Gorge were exactly what we needed. ❀️ No crowds. No rush. Just quiet mornings, red cliffs and a chance to reset. The boys loved exploring the nearby Glacier Rock slide - a fascinating reminder that this now hot, rugged landscape was once covered by a glacier hundreds of millions of years ago. You can still see the grooves carved into the rock as the ice slowly moved across it. Pretty incredible to think about when you're standing in the middle of the Pilbara! The water wasn't at its clearest while we were there, so swimming was off the cards, but that didn't stop us from enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and exploring the area. Sometimes the best stops aren't about ticking off attractions - they're about slowing down and appreciating where you are. 🧑 Have you made the trip out to Carawine Gorge yet? by @grassisgreenerau
πŸ’Έ We knew this week was going to hurt... Travelling from Port Hedland to Karratha definitely wasn't kind to the budget this week. πŸ˜… The biggest hit? A brand new hot water system for the van. Not exactly the kind of upgrade you get excited about, but sometimes maintenance can't wait. A hot shower had never felt so good the day it got fixed! A few other things that pushed the numbers up: πŸ” Eating out was way higher than normal. We had a few busy days and convenience won. This also included dinner and drinks out one night. πŸ›’ Shopping was mostly those random bits and pieces that always seem to sneak into the trolley. πŸ’†β€β™€οΈ Health & Wellbeing included usual scripts, private health, and I finally treated myself to getting my brows done. 🐢 Barry scored a bark collar, so hopefully campground life gets a little quieter for everyone! The best part of this week was our accommodation! 🍺 We "paid" with a carton of beer to stay in a mate's yard. Hard to complain about that. This week's total: 🚐 Car/Van Maintenance – $1,511 πŸ” Eating Out – $507 πŸ›’ Groceries – $471 πŸ›οΈ Shopping – $281 πŸ’†β€β™€οΈ Health & Wellbeing – $250 β›½ Fuel – $241 🐢 Pets – $201 🍺 Alcohol – $100 πŸ•οΈ Accommodation – $67 πŸ“‘ Phone & Starlink – $44 πŸ“Ί Subscriptions – $22 Total: $3,695 Some weeks you save money… some weeks your caravan reminds you who's really in charge. πŸ˜‚ #travelaustralia #vanlifeaustralia #budgettravel #familytravel #weeklybudget by @grassisgreenerau
πŸ’° We accidentally had one of our CHEAPEST weeks of full-time travel yet... πŸ‘€ From the Marble Bar region to Port Hedland, this week looked a little different. We met an incredible family who own a station and they kindly invited us to stay while Lucas did some welding for them. Not only did we get to experience station life, but we also had free accommodation for the week. Here's what we spent: πŸ›’ Groceries: $320 β›½ Fuel: $251 πŸ” Eating Out: $164 ❀️ Health & Wellbeing: $103 πŸ“± Phone & Starlink: $59 🍻 Alcohol: $54 πŸ›οΈ Shopping: $37 πŸ“Ί Subscriptions: $28 πŸ•οΈ Accommodation: $0 Total: $1,016 πŸ₯³ Weeks like this are a great reminder that full-time travel doesn't always have to be expensive. Sometimes the best experiences come from the amazing people you meet along the way. Have you ever had strangers turn into lifelong friends while travelling? ❀️ #AustraliaTravel #FullTimeTravel #BudgetTravel #CaravanLife #TravelAustralia by @grassisgreenerau
What did it cost our family of 4 to travel Australia this week? πŸšπŸ’Έ This week's total: $1,367 Here's where our money went: πŸ›’ Groceries: $466 (high but we hadn't stopped for 2 weeks properly) β›½ Fuel: $427 πŸ›οΈ Shopping: $213 πŸ” Eating out: $93 πŸ’š Health & wellbeing: $78 🍻 Alcohol: $67 πŸ“Ί Subscriptions: $23 (cancelling subscriptions we don’t need as we go!) One thing we've learnt after travelling full-time is that no two weeks are the same. Some weeks fuel is our biggest expense, other weeks it's groceries, and sometimes unexpected purchases throw the budget out completely. This week, we stayed exclusively at free camps, so we didn't spend anything on accommodation. It's a great reminder that where you choose to stay can make a huge difference to your weekly travel budget. We don't share these numbers because we think everyone should spend the same - we're simply giving an honest look at what full-time travel costs for our family of four. Hopefully these weekly updates help anyone who's curious about travelling Australia, planning their own lap, or just enjoys seeing the real numbers behind life on the road. Did this week's total surprise you? πŸ‘‡ by @grassisgreenerau
