Happy Sunday. Just a quick post on this sunny Sunday to share some of the making processes used in my #Resonance series of work in the wonderful #FromOtherLands exhibition at Ruthin Craft Centre. The reel shows the embedding of a Welsh dolphin vocalisation in one of the pieces. Enjoy. Feel free to ask any questions! 😊🌎💙💫 Many thanks to @neilwilkinglass , Stephen Heaton, Gregory Parsons @gregory2970 and Sam and the team @ruthincrafts . It's an honour to be included in this brilliant exhibition. #madeinwales #sustainablymade #oceaninspired by @gregory2970
I'm so thrilled to be included in the 'From others lands' exhibition at Ruthin Craft Centre. A theme close to my heart. I have created a new series of work, Resonance, for this exhibition. It's a sensory experience. For me, submerging underwater triggers a profound sensory inversion: as my hearing becomes muffled, my vision takes over to interpret the colour and movement of the marine environment, yet most marine life relies almost entirely on sound. To capture this experience for the From Other Lands exhibition, I have translated vocalisations from Cardigan Bay’s resident dolphins into hot glass, capturing the rhythms of their acoustic Welsh dialect as layered, visual bubbles. This methodology mirrors Cynghanedd—a Welsh poetic form in which patterns of sound create an internal harmony and hidden structure. It is often described as a music within language, where repetition, rhythm, and echo bind words together. In a similar way, these vocalisations become bubbles captured in glass. They are not the sound itself, but its visible trace—making vocal patterns tangible within glass in the same way Cynghanedd makes sound patterns tangible within poetry. For me, this acoustic focus mirrors the deeply personal experience of migration, a phenomenon that spans the living world. Settling in Wales, I found that a sensitivity to its voice—through culture, language, and music—fosters a profound love of place; these elements form the very cadence of Welsh life. Each vessel in my Resonance series serves as a visual record of this cross-species communication, inviting us to look beyond ourselves and find connection in the shared spaces we inhabit. Many thanks to @neilwilkinglass, Stephen Heaton, @gregory2970 and Sam & the team @ruthincrafts for making this possible. #oceaninspired #voices #madeinwales #sustainablymade by @gregory2970
I'm over the moon to share that tomorrow the 'From Others Lands' exhibition opens at the Ruthin Craft Centre. I have made a special collection for this exhibition and am thrilled to be sharing the space with such amazing artists. Many thanks to Samantha Rhodes and Gregory Parsons for this opportunity, to Neil Wilkin for his unwaivering encouragement and support and to Stephen Heaton for the wonderful images of the collection. There is more about the exhibition at the Link in my Bio ⬆️ and I will share more about the work over the next few day and weeks. #madeinwales #sustainablymade #oceaninspired by @gregory2970
