Cadillac blissfulness ✨ The name of the apparatus, however, was not given by Joseph Pilates himself. Back in the 40s, the Cadillac was a top of the line luxury car and one of Joe’s students jokingly made a comparison between the automobile and the Pilates Trapeze Table and I guess it kind of stuck #pilates by @guicarotenuto

Classics will always be classics It might come as a surprise but Pilates has been there for at least 100 years The Pilates method is like a tapestry in which each movement is woven into the next, allowing us to experience not a fragmented body or one divided into separate parts, but a connected and integrated body. In this sequence: 1. Short Spine Massage 2. Coordination 3. Pulling Straps 4. Teaser 5. Snake 6. Twist 7. Splits (Back) #pilates #pilatesinstructor by @guicarotenuto

"Word-work is sublime because it is generative; it makes meaning that secures our difference, our human difference - the way in which we are like no other life. We die. That may be the meaning of life. But we do language. That may be the measure of our lives." - Toni Morrison Since a long time I've been intrigued by the relationship between language and the body. I've had amazing mentors, teachers and friends who helped me through their words to find new ways of moving my body (and existing in the world). But I've also had teachers who hurt me deeply, giving me fear and blocking pathways of movement through my body. The language we use matters, the words we choose matters. Cliché expressions such as "words wound"/"words can heal" are clearly signing the very real, material and physical effects of language in our bodies. And this is valid inside any dance studio, pilates studio, any box or gym - spaces in which words are resources to generate action and motion in other bodies. Thinking about language and its effects is also a matter of survival. Minority groups have to constantly find new words to navigate through the world because the pre existing narratives do not serve us, or worse, threaten our lives through hate speech. "It matters what matters we use to think other matters with; it matters what stories we tell to tell other stories with." And that's why I have been editing the language I use when I teach, because I know that for each person I meet along the way I'll need a whole new set of words. By the way, that's me performing Short Spine Massage - just melting my spine down the carriage like maple syrup on top of pancakes kiss kiss . . . . #pilates #pilatesstudio #pilateseveryday #pilatestododia #pilatesinstructor by @guicarotenuto
