You better believe I used CDs as my graphic 😂 #millennial

Lots of lovely new faces around here, so it’s the perfect time for a reintroduction!

hi, I’m Haley and I write books that blur the line between hopeful & haunting 🖤

My latest project is a contemporary gothic novel about a cursed island and the artist who calls it home. In it, you’ll find:
✧ Tragic romance
✧ Dark libraries
✧ Sad boys
✧ Festivals for the dead
✧ Messy family dynamics
✧ Possession
✧ Quirky townspeople
✧ Paintings that paint themselves

🕯️Welcome to my little literary corner. It’s covered in cobwebs, and full of beautifully dark stories that will make your heart ache in the best way

If you’re into that sort of thing, stick around and let’s be friends!

I’m guilty of this too, but it’s like comparing apples to glazed ceramic oranges

🍊Indulge me while I play out the metaphor lol…

🌱 Fresh apples in the tree are NEW and raw and full of potential. You can slice them, turn them into a pie, or let them rot on the ground. Ceramic oranges are unchanging, and in their final state. Shiny. Pretty. Forever.

Now think about it in terms of your manuscript. It’s unpolished and imperfect, but FULL of potential as a living breathing thing. It can change 100 times before it’s in its final state, and sometimes, we abandon ideas altogether.

📚The books you pull off the shelf at the library or the bookstore are in their final state, and will RARELY show significant changes over the years.

They’ve already been through the long and grueling process of editing—pinching and pulling words together until they’re as close to perfect as they will ever be.

⭐️ I’m JUST as guilty of this! But I learned that these comparisons only steal the JOY of writing something beautifully imperfect.

Welcome to 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒑 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒕, where the names are made up but the tropes do matter. We’re talking all things books, from abandoned seaside towns to High Lords to shifting beasts. The more unhinged, the better!

On tonight’s episode, contestants will compete in three categories:

🎭 act it out
👄 pronunciation
💕 guess who’s endgame

Tonight we welcome to the stage: Emily “I hate you but I love you,” Haley “his tragic backstory makes him hotter,” Sydnee “it took ten years to write this,” Taylor “must love cats,” Andrea “one bed is better than two,” and Ryn “he washes her hair”!

Best of luck, contestants!

LOCKED IN🤣 Actual ideas for better focus ⬇️

🤫 DO NOT DISTURB - turn on this setting on your phone! because even receiving a text can result in me wandering over to social media more than I’d like

🚫 BRICK YOUR PHONE - if you didn’t see my most recent post before this, go back and watch it because I talk all about Brick!! The most expensive of the three options, but the most effective imo. I have different settings for workflow vs nighttime wind down.

⏰ CUBE TIMER - perfect for short writing bursts or longer editing sessions where you want to know the end is coming, but don’t want to bother keeping track. DM me and I’ll send you a link to my favorite one (not affiliated or anything, just sharing!)

Aside from helping me focus during writing time, I’m reading so much more at night because I’m not laying in bed endlessly scrolling 🫣

The @getbrick works by limiting access to whichever apps you choose for however long you choose. I have a “work” setting and a “bedtime” setting. One little brick was perfect for our house because you can use multiple phones with it

So you HAVE TO LET ME KNOW if you try it!!

When the algo wants to put us in boxes, I get realllll claustrophobic. So here’s a reminder that behind every writer is a regular human with too many hobbies and a messy writing space 😉

Love you dearly! From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being here and following also as I do silly things
