〰️ Tureen for Lilith 〰️ I went to a place called The Ink Wells yesterday and photographed this sculpture in use. It burns 40 incense and also acts as a vessel for drinking tea. The tea is poured into a ceramic flower and tunnels through the inside of the sculpture where it exits and gathers into a cup for drinking. 〰️ The Mythology Within’〰️ Ace of Cups (1 of cups) is characterized as representing new beginnings in one’s emotional body, a start or a re-start if you will. Lilith is often characterized in Mesopotamian and Jewish mysticism as the first “wife” of Adam, who eventually left to pursue her own life and interests, but patriarchal narratives have largely demonized her instead of celebrating her tenacious bravery, courage, and trust in herself…. Unfortunately we see this re-played throughout history time and time again. AFAB Women, trans Women, fems, and queers are often demonized for stepping into their true power as punishment for “defying” patriarchal systems of control, but we must remember that stepping away from systems that survive on domination, control, and subjugation is a sacred and necessary act. Trust yourself, trust your path, and let what does not serve you fall away. Let the illusion of subjugation be transmuted into smoke and may you fill your cup with everything that is made of your truth: Your friends, your writing, your dance practice, your mornings, your slowness, your art, and everything in between. Bird and Stone - 2026 I've been working on this one for months. Bird and Stone is a reference to a poem in Victoria Chang's 2022 book of poetry, "The Trees Witness Everything". (cc: @fattery12 ) - Thanks for inspiring us with your great work. by @hallie.mathieu

Thrilled to announce a show co-curated with @uncivil.girl and hosted by @someday.wewill … THROUGH THE LOOKING GRASS which brings together artists from Detroit proper + beyond for a week long exhibition during NCECA. Unconcerned with conventional making methods, the artists opt for an approach that protects the “unclouded brow and dreaming eyes of wonder.” In their hands, fables are retold and characters are reshaped. Featuring - Tracy Ren, Alex Kerr, Hope Hickman, Realm, Joe Reilley, Sam Dienst, Hallie Mathieu, and Michaela Ayers Veronika and I will be turning away from the mountains and crossing over many rivers to make it there soon, pedestals safely strapped to the car. Are we done with color? ------------------------- @pantone color of the year for 2026 is Cloud Dancer. This might signal a shift in the overall aesthetic choices of artists in the coming years. For the last 7 or so years we have seen an increase in hyper saturated and hyper textured surfaces in art. I believe this is mainly due to the proliferation of business models that turn attention into profit, however it appears as though the pendulum could be swinging the other way. After a nearly decade long stint into maximalism in fashion, painting, ceramics, video, ect... it appears we might finally be turning a corner into more simple and de-saturated approaches to design and color. I don't think that looks like the return of LA wood interior minimalism chic (thank god), but rather a soft exhale after a long sprint into studying maximalist form, texture, and color choices as we see a rise in Artificial Intelligence system usage and a general rise in anxiety, loneliness, and over work. What desaturation in the market will attempt to offer is a break from the increasing pace of society and an ability for us to recuperate our senses. I predict a rise in popularity of brands that can emulate a @snowpeakusa like aesthetic. Classic, clean, and timeless will be the method. Artists that can develop their style to focus on form and narrative over highly saturated color palettes will likely start to garner more attention. Bonus points if you can make videos that return people to a sense that their everyday lives are valuable and important. Let's see where it goes. Anyone out there seeing less color in art already? by @hallie.mathieu
Symbols Change Across Time Tracking that shift is an essential part of knowing exactly how those symbols act on us today. Thinking about Mesopotamia, Greece, Persia, and the United States. How have they generated their own symbols and also how have they used specific symbols to proliferate ideologies globally? The iconographies pictured here are centuries old, but continue to act on us today. Elliott Smith once wrote, "you get what you see", my question is what are we seeing and in that seeing what are we missing? Pictured here is a Mantichora, The Pendulum of Venus, and a Cross held by multiple fingers. In the last slide a figure plays a Game Boy Advance with a burning Sun on the screen. by @hallie.mathieu
