Miracle in Antarctica | A Film Screening 🗓️ 15th November 2026, Sunday 🕡 11 AM to 2 PM 📍 BLR Design Centre, Church Street, Bengaluru. In December 1983, Dr. Harsh Kumar Gupta, a geophysicist and seismologist and now a Padma Shri recipient, is sent to Antarctica to lead a mission then thought impossible: build Dakshin Gangotri–India’s first scientific base-station there–before the end of the Antarctic summer, a fleeting timeframe of barely 60 days. To achieve it would be to set a world record. But time is not his only nemesis. Battered by a blizzard and a helicopter crash, will one man’s leadership and the team’s grit prevail over their frostbitten fingers, before the pack ice moves in to leave them doomed? With Santhosh Saligram, Suraj Sumanth, Sourabha Rao, and K.J. Dilip, moderated by Nitya Satheesh. RSVP at the link in bio. by @hamsagatha

‘Miracle in Antarctica’ premieres on 28 October at 06:30 PM at @bicblr. RSVP now! Link in bio. #Antarctica #dakshingangotri #miracleinantarctica #india by @hamsagatha
What do you do when you’ve been sent on a mission that’s been granted only a 15% chance of success and you have a catastrophic accident when you’ve barely started taking a crack at it? If you’re the class of 1983, you double down and chart history. I’m delighted to announce that my docufilm, ‘Miracle in Antarctica: The Forgotten Story of Dakshin Gangotri’, will premiere on 28 October at 06:30 PM at Bangalore International Centre (@bicblr), Domlur, Bengaluru. The film chronicles how India did what no country had done before, and astonishingly, no country has achieved since — a record that has stood for over four decades. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Harsh Gupta — scientist and expedition leader; @santoshsaligram — the film’s director and editor; Sourabha Rao — producer; and @surajsunnysumanth — animation project manager; moderated by @preetizach22, journalist with @the_hindu. Unfortunately, the Antarctic ice hasn’t been quite so steadfast. Melting at an alarming rate due to the continent warming faster than the rest of the planet, it is in grave danger of causing a global crisis — unless we act NOW. RSVP now to join us for the premiere (LINK IN BIO), and bring your children and young friends, especially, for it’s time to show them what’s at stake, and what they’re capable of doing if they put their hearts to it.
