When all those hours with the metronome finally turn into live freedom on stage. 🎹 Stravinsky’s Danse Russe leaves zero room to hide. Every syncopation and rapid jump requires relentless precision in the practice room—because true artistic freedom under the stage lights only happens after you’ve built total rhythmic control with the click. Here is the live result from the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts in Chicago! Full recital link in bio! 🔗 What’s the hardest piece you’ve ever had to master with a metronome? Happy to announce my 2026-2027 season! Just in a week, I will give the world premiere of Fern Flower by Nina C. Young (@composernina) at NEC. More performances of the piece in Chicago (Aug 19, 2026) and New York (Apr 13, 2027). It is a gorgeous piece, mark your calendar! Other music by Beethoven, Liszt, and Stravinsky. On November 10, I will give the west-coast premiere of A Book of Time I by Lei Liang (@leiliangmusic) that he wrote for me. This will be my San Diego recital debut—I am so excited! This season, I will make my debut appearances with four orchestras, playing concertos by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Florence Price, and Brent Michael Davids. So looking forward to working with the amazing musicians and conductors! Please check out all other performances and I hope to see you soon! That’s a wrap on an incredible Grammy week! It has been a truly humbling experience to stand alongside such a legendary group of nominees. Seeing @yoyoma win his 20th Grammy was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do—it’s so affirming for the classical community and fans alike. Feeling inspired and deeply grateful. I’m so glad to have met all the amazing fellow nominees this year. What a wonderful group of talented, dedicated individuals who are so passionate about their craft and their communities. I am forever grateful to everyone who has supported me on this journey. I couldn’t have done this without the most supportive Maestro @johnsjeter who poured his heart into this project. Huge thanks to @duytranmusic and @tdiemco for hosting us and making this trip extra special. Shout out to @lueurjewelry for sponsoring all the amazing vintage jewelry. Special thanks to my hubby @lzwaaron for being by my side through and through! Congratulations to all the nominees and winners! #grammys #music #classicalmusic #redcarpet #losangeles by @hanchenpiano
Have you listened to Episode 1 yet? 🎧✨ I sat down with composer Ellis Ludwig-Leone for the launch of my new podcast, In Concert with Han, and I loved his take on how composition is like building architecture, while songwriting feels more like having a casual chat on a couch. 🛋️🏛️ If you haven’t checked it out yet, head to the link in my bio to listen to the full conversation! 🎙️👇 #inconcertwithhan #podcast #contemporarymusic #pianist #composer by @hanchenpiano

From a delicate whisper all the way to absolute thunder. Playing Liszt’s Funérailles live is such a wild ride—you really have to lean into the hall’s acoustics and just let the raw emotion take over. 🎹✨ Catch me playing this live at my upcoming recital at the Conrad Prebys Concert Hall in San Diego on November 7—hope to see you there! #liszt #funérailles #classicalmusic #pianomusic #pianorecital by @hanchenpiano
I had the incredible pleasure performing two concerti with the Montgomery County Orchestra last week. Pairing Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 1 and Price Piano Concerto in One Movement was a brilliant idea. Thanks to amazing @dfitz_conducting_geek for the opportunity and leadership, thanks to all the musicians who played in the concert, and thanks to all the audience members who joined us! 📸 by @lzwaaron #pianoconcerto #beethoven #florenceprice #pianistlife #classicalmusic by @hanchenpiano
False Harmonics returns for its 28th iteration with a performance by the Currawong Project (@currawongproject) on Monday, October 26. Five pianists—Han Chen (@hanchenpian), Arseniy Gusev (@gusev.arseniy), Asiya Korepanova (@asiya.korepanova), Nicolas Namoradze (@nicolasnamoradze), and Élisabeth Pion (@elisabeth.pion)—will move among three technology-enhanced Steinway concert grands to perform 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙞𝙩 𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙬𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙬, a new composition by Matthias Kriesberg written in homage to Alexander Scriabin. As the piece evolves throughout the performance, Kevin Larke’s electronics will analyze the pianists’ playing in real time and transform the sound in response. After intermission, the pianists will turn to Scriabin’s earlier works before returning to Kriesberg’s piece in a radically different form, with all five pianists performing at once. Accompanying the music is a long-form film by Huei Lin, whose recursive video loops and deconstructed images act as both a mirror and response to the performance. 🎟️ Tickets and more information about Currawong Project can be found at the link in bio. 📌PW Members get free admission to all False Harmonics shows. Oct 26 | Doors 7 pm | Start 8 pm Pioneer Works, 159 Pioneer St, Brooklyn by @hanchenpiano
Playing two concertos in one concert! Joining David Fitzpatrick and the Montgomery County Orchestra on October 18 at 3:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansdale, PA, for an incredible program featuring Beethoven and Florence Price! In this clip, we talk about discovering Florence Price’s extraordinary Piano Concerto, the unique storytelling magic of her music, and how her path connects with my own time at the New England Conservatory. Check out the full interview on the Montgomery County Orchestra’s YouTube channel, and grab your tickets for October 18! #pianoconcerto #florenceprice #beethoven #classicalmusic #interview by @hanchenpiano
Learning Ravel’s Ondine in 30 days — Part 2 (Days 16–30)! If Day 1 was pure panic, Day 20 was a full-blown crisis: I suddenly realized my fingering was wrong halfway through. Changing fingerings so late in the game is terrifying—it practically feels like learning a brand-new piece from scratch!  The final stretch was entirely a test of mental control. It took rigorous slow practice to nail down those tricky thirds and train the brain so the music could finally take flight on recording day.  The audiobook for Barbara Kingsolver’s new novel Partita is officially out now, featuring my full recording of Ondine as a bonus track! Getting Ravel’s Ondine ready in just 30 days? 😅 When I got the call to record it as a bonus track for Barbara Kingsolver’s new audiobook Partita, I knew it was going to be an absolute sprint—but I couldn’t say no! Here’s Part 1 (Days 1–15) of the journey: from day-one panic and mastering those whisper-quiet beginning to recital travels in Boston & Chicago. Stay tuned for Part 2 (Days 16–30) to see how the final recording session came together! 🎧 The Partita audiobook is officially OUT TODAY, featuring my full recording of Ondine alongside music by Bach, Chopin, Grieg, and Satie.
