Australia, you absolutely stole my heart 🧡
Not a single day has passed that I haven’t thought about returning. The wildlife, the people, the landscapes – Australia’s beauty had me in a blink, with this moment being one of my core memories: This kangaroo mother suddenly got up, revealing her little joey peeking out of her pouch while the sun was setting in the background. 🦘✨

Mount Taranaki – the stunning stratovolcano seen in this photo – was recently granted legal personhood, recognized and protected thanks to the relentless efforts of the Māori people. This reflects their deep respect for nature, not as something separate from us, but as something we are inherently part of.
I wish we could all adopt this way of thinking, to see ourselves as one with nature, rather than above it. Perhaps then, we would navigate our current crises with greater humility, compassion and mindfulness. 🌿🏔️🧡

To hear gibbons calling in Thailand‘s rainforest was one of the most magical things I‘ve ever experienced! But even though we heard them so many times, it took quite a while until we actually got to see them. Finally, a group of several individuals showed up and one was even carrying a baby. They swung from tree to tree as it were nothing, always making their distinctive calls. It was so incredible to watch! 🧡🥰

Say hi to the smallest bear species on Earth, the Malayan sun bear (Helarctos malayanus). 🐻🥰
I never would have thought that we would actually encounter several individuals during our time in the Thai rainforest, especially since their population is rapidly declining. This is mainly due to habitat loss from logging and commercial plantations (e.g. oil palm), but also due to illegal wildlife trade.

We spotted this baby stump-tailed macaque curiously peeking out from the safety of the adults during our morning boat tour on Cheow Lan Lake. Stump-tailed macaque infants are born with white fur, which gradually darkens as they grow older. ✨🌿

We hadn’t spotted much wildlife over the past few days when suddenly, on a random Thursday in January, our luck completely changed. Not only did a melanistic leopard cross our path, but as we were about to leave the national park, an Asian elephant, emerged from the trees.

For a while, we watched this magnificent animal make its way to a nearby watering hole, where it drew water with its trunk and splashed it over its body. Once it had finished, it began covering itself with dust before eventually disappearing back into the dense forest.

It was probably the most special wildlife encounter I have ever experienced so far and I still feel incredibly grateful for having been given the chance to witness something like this. 🐘💛🌿

My whole life I have been fascinated by rainforests and their immense biodiversity and I‘ve always dreamed of seeing a tropical primary rainforest with my own eyes. Last January I finally fulfilled this lifelong dream by travelling to Thailand and it was truly incredible! The sounds, the wildlife, the lush vegetation - that all was so special to me! 🥹 I still feel so grateful to have been able to make this experience and I truly hope that I can return one day! 🌿🐘🦜
