POSTS STORIES REELS

This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer abroad in Mombasa, Kenya, with International Medical Aid at the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital. I spent my time there observing various dental professionals and procedures in the dental unit. It was truly one of the greatest experiences of my life and deepened my passion for dentistry in ways I’ll carry with me forever. 😊🦷

I gained invaluable clinical exposure and learned what it means to provide care in a resource-limited setting, but the most meaningful lessons weren’t technical at all. I learned things that couldn’t be taught in a classroom, like the importance of humility, compassion, empathy, commitment, community, sacrifice, discipline, clarity, and gratitude. 🫂🩷

Beyond the hospital walls, Kenya taught me even more. I spent time learning about the culture, enjoying the food, sharing stories, traveling, and feeling embraced by a community that quickly felt like home. The friendships I formed are ones I’ll hold onto for life & I miss them all so deeply already. Working alongside peers from all over the world who share the same drive and heart was both grounding and inspiring. 🥹🌍

I am forever grateful for this chapter of my life and all of the wonderful people that I met along this journey who shared so much with me. Asante Sana, Kenya! 🇰🇪 Thank you for shaping me, challenging me, and reminding me why I chose this path. 🦷🩷 by @harlee.santana
