What’s your scariest trail story? Here’s Sanna Spooky Duthie’s… Nettle Alley. A lesser-known trail in beautiful woodland. When it’s good, it’s good. But when it’s bad, it will keep you awake all night Paths leading to the alley are false hope. You are drawn in. And once you cross that bridge, there is no turning back. Half a mile of quad-high nettles to wade through. It doesn’t seem too bad at first. You made it through… Then the stinging starts. You finish your run, you think it’s ok, the stings ease, and then the itching begins, and it does not stop. Torture all night and into the next day! Nothing eases the itching. What’s your scariest trail story? Here’s James Evil-eyed Elson’s… For me it would be after leaving Lone Pine with 5-10 miles to go at Badwater 135, I was deep into the second night and hallucinating - the trees either side of the trail turned into giant dinosaurs looming over the road with teeth bared. It wasn’t the best! What’s your scariest trail story? Here’s Ronnie Rotten Staton’s… One night I was running along the canal towpath through Retford, with a graveyard either side, when my head torch picked up an old man sitting completely motionless on a bench. It was late, cold and he was staring straight ahead. I ran past, feeling a little uneasy, muttered hello to no response, then looked back a few seconds later. The bench was still there. The old man wasn’t. I couldn’t see anywhere he could possibly have gone in a few seconds. Needless to say, I just about soiled myself then absolutely hammered the next mile - before having to walk for a while because I’d run too bloody fast. Worst interval session of my life. What’s your scariest trail story? Here’s Dan Devilish Summers’… For me it’s all about sheep at night! Running through remote parts of Wales in the middle of the night and hearing a sound behind me, I turned around to see 100s of sets of red eyes staring at me. It took me a few moments of terror to realise these were just sheep following me and their eyes reflecting my head torch light! I’ve been racing in the Lake District on my own focusing hard, I came to a river crossing and stepped on a grey rock only to find out it w by @harrier_trail_running
Competition now closed! 👻🎃 Trick or trail?... We choose TREAT! This Halloween, you could be one of 5 lucky trail runners winning a bundle of Harrier treats to make your next trail run a little less terrifying. Been caught miles from anywhere with no water? Nightmare. You need some spooky Soft Bottles. Gone flying on a descent chasing a Strava segment? Horrifying. Best start packing an eery Emergency Bivvy. Finished a long, wet run with feet so disgusting they deserve their own Facebook page? Truly frightening. Don’t worry, there’s a beastly Blister Kit for that. To enter, simply comment “TREAT” on this post. And for an extra chance of winning, tell us your scariest trail running moment. Bog disappearances, wrong turns in the dark, and spectacular wipeouts are all encouraged… Competition closes midnight Friday 16th October. by @harrier_trail_running

GOOD LUCK KALLUM! This weekend, Harrier PRO Team athlete @kallumpritchard1993 takes on the Nice 100 miler at Nice Côte d'Azur by UTMB. Last time we caught up with him, he’d just taken the win at the Bjelasica Trail 60K in Montenegro. Since then, there’s been plenty of incline treadmill intervals, StairMaster sessions, steep hill reps, strength work, pole practice and training on tired legs… all while fitting it around a full-time job and two little ones at home! Want to know how he’s been preparing for this one, what he learned from Montenegro and what kit he’ll be relying on out there? Head to the blog to read our full interview with Kallum. A HUGE good luck from all of us at Harrier, Kall. We’ll be cheering you on! by @harrier_trail_running
