Your deer season deserves better than another pot of plain chili.

Put that venison to work with cornbread waffles. Swipe for your next hunting-season meal, and save this one for later.

Hunting dinner was only part of the challenge. Making it last was another.

From pemmican on the trail to salmon drying racks and stores of wild rice, we explore how Indigenous communities and frontier travelers preserved wild foods long before refrigeration.

Ep 288: The Wild Pantry, Part VIII is out now on the Wild Fish and Game Podcast.

We talked trash about deer leg steaks. Now we’re helping you cook them.

Before you throw us, or those steaks, out, hear us out. A little liquid, low heat, and time can turn that freezer regret into a damn good dinner. Just stop treating them like a steak.

Listen to Ep 287 of the Wild Fish and Game Podcast for more hate on leg steaks.

BUT…Who’s still got a pack buried under the backstrap?

Think you know your deer cuts?

This one looks like a prized steak, but looks can be deceiving. There’s a good chance you’ve sent it straight to the grinder.

Can you identify it before the final slide?

Swipe -> No cheating.
