POSTS STORIES REELS

With these hands our family of five transforms wood, clay, and antler to create buttons that are both beautiful and unique. At the core of everything we do lies a deep love for the land - its soil, water, and air.

We had a friend this past weekend take this photo. It was provoked by questions we occasionally get asked, such as “Do you sell metal buttons, or plastic, or...?” Or, “Where do you get your buttons from?” Questions like these get me thinking about how fast fashion and mass production are so engrained in us that we’ve forgotten that there are folks out there, like us, like you, that still relish handcraft and appreciate the love and skill that goes into it. We take for granted the inanimate objects around us, and often don’t think twice about the impact they have on our environment and the community in which they were produced.

Everyday our family creates, with our hands and the natural resources we’ve been blessed with, to make goods that we hope will add a smile to your face and a loving touch to your handwork. We thank you all for following our handcrafted journey, and most of all, supporting a family that loves creating together!

We can’t control the outcome of everything, but we do have a voice every time we make a purchase. When we buy local we’re supporting our community, when we purchase recycled goods we’re reducing the waste stream, and when we purchase products made from natural and renewable resources, we’re voting for a healthier and cleaner environment.

Our family holds dear the forest we’re nestled in here in the Appalachian foothills of southeastern Ohio. Every day it nourishes our hearts and our souls. It provides for us a means to make a living we feel good about, and allows us to reduce our footprint on the environment by keeping our production process here on our farm - from start to finish.

So what’s our process, where does it all start? The answer is that there is no definite beginning or end. It’s a cycle. We could say it begins with a kiss on a horses warm nose, and a “thank you for all you do”; a wind storm that thrashes through the forest taking down the old and weak, or the tree that was lightning damaged. We could say it begins in the field where we cut organic hay to feed the horses so they maintain their strength to conquer a mighty pull.

Whether it’s in the hay field, the forest, or the wood shop, every step is performed with care and integrity. Our little family - husband, wife, and three children - work together daily to create goods that are unique, sustainable, and produced with a lot of love. We pride ourselves on creating goods that are of high quality, but to us this doesn’t just mean "made well", it means made to someday return to the earth from which it came.

We’re so honored to provide for our customers a selection of wooden goods made from the fruits of our land. From the smallest button to a shelf for one's home, we hope every piece brings you joy!

Warm wishes,
Valerie, Chris, Adallie, Elsie, and Oscar

On our list of to-do’s this week was to share with y’all some of the quilt packs we brought home with us from Rhinebeck, as well as highlight the work of @gudrunjohnston in her new book Shetland Shades - Stories in Wool.
We are so very honored to not only have our quilt buttons featured in its pages, but some of our others as well!

We love Gudrun and we love Shetland wool, so when we opened up IG this morning and saw her exciting post, along with @jamiesonsofshetland, we knew now was the time to share! You’ll want to head over to her page if you haven’t yet heard the news! 🤎

If you had the opportunity to make it to Rhinebeck, you may have picked up a pack of these buttons, and even had the opportunity to meet Gudrun and have your book signed!🥰 If not, they are available for order on her website at theshetlandtrader.com.

For now, most of our quilt buttons are sold out on our website, and it’s going to be some time before a good restock, but we wanted to give y’all the opportunity to snag some for this very beautiful #hapquiltvest shown. These 1-1/16” quilt buttons will be sold as either four or five packs and we’ll have the Ohio Star, Log Cabin, and Flying Geese patterns.

Lastly, I had to share a picture of my 2nd #heritageyokecardigan - this time in two colors. I’m knitting it up in Oyster as my MC and Copper as the CC. Thank you @coloradoknitter and @edmistoncreations, yours were an inspiration!🤗

Quilt button packs will go live on our website this Thursday at 8pm EST. We hope they inspire you to cast on!!!😊❤️

Almost forgot! Feel free to reach out to us if you have questions about color matches for the buttons and Jamiesons!

We’re on the road home with our 3rd Rhinebeck in the books and are feeling immensely grateful for all of you that came by and wiped us almost clean out of buttons! Going back almost 7 years, we never would have thought that our love for sheep and wool and knitting would have sparked this small handmade business that brings us so much joy and a beautiful connection to an incredibly talented community of makers. So thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for all your support. It’s truly a dream to be able to create for your creations!!!🥰🤗🤗🤗🤗

P.S. If you placed an order with us online, you can expect to find shipping and tracking details by the week’s end. Thank you! by @haulinhooffarm

Heading to Rhinebeck? Stop by and say hello! Along with a copious amount of buttons, we'll have a nice selection of earrings (and a whole new EARRING ISLAND!) I had to pull some of these house quilts from the bunch to see how they'd pair with my newly casted on #heritageyokecardigan by @gudrunjohnston. I'll be wearing my first one this weekend!
Not into quilt designs so much? We'll also have some florals, sheep, immaculate hand painted animals by @elsiesceramicstory, and yarn skeins. Did I leave any out? Maybe.
Have a wonderful, knit-filled day and we hope to see you this weekend! by @haulinhooffarm

Happy Tuesday! We’re so excited to hit the road to Rhinebeck soon and have major cheek muscle cramps from profusely smiling for days on end!!! How about y’all? 🧶🧶🧶

We want to remind you that we’ll be closer to the entrance gate this year, and it’ll be well worth the little jump, I’m sure!

We hope to see you soon!!🌈🧶🧶🧶🤗

📣We have a couple SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS for you today!

First, we wanted to let y’all know that this Thursday will be the last day to get orders in before we close our office to prepare for our Rhinebeck expedition! All orders placed by Thursday, October 8th will ship by Saturday October, 10th. Any orders placed after this date will not be shipped until October 23rd. We truly appreciate your patience!😊

Secondly, we wanted to let you know that, though we will still be located on the Lower Road in Rhinebeck, we are moving closer to the main entrance barn (ODLR-01/03). This means that we will be on the other side of @fibermacgyver, and on the very end. This move will allow us to open up our space and make it much more pleasant for folks to move around. We hope this will make it more accessible for everyone to shop and feel comfortable. 💕

We can’t wait to see y’all in a couple of weeks and wish everyone a safe and exciting Rhinebeck weekend!

Happy knitting!🧶
