I’ve decided none of us should go into the woods alone this weekend, so I’m inviting two of you to come with me! I’m giving away a pair of tickets to TERRORTHON this Sunday at The Franklin Theatre! Terrorthon is a double-header. The Blair Witch Project starting at 5, followed by a mystery movie at 7! I’ll be there hosting and introducing the film, plus I’m bringing some goodies, archive merch, and (you know me…) of course there will be a few extra surprises for the night! To enter: •Follow @reelsouthcinema, @hauntsville and @franklintheatre •Like and comment on this post with the person you’d drag along! •For an extra entry, share the post to your Story and tag me so I can see it. I’ll close entries Saturday at 2 PM CT and contact the winner that afternoon! Help us find the truth behind the legend of the Blair Witch. I have a better sense of direction than Heather... I’ll even try to keep track of the map! (No promises) Link to purchase tickets in my bio! by @hauntsville
You’re not just here to watch the show. You have a part to play! Vote, y’all! by @hauntsville

Hauntsville will be there hosting and helping turn the screening into a little more of an experience than just pressing play. Your ticket gets you TWO movies: The Blair Witch Project + a secret second mystery horror film. Between films, there’ll also be horror trivia and a chance to win some goodies! Director Ngozi Onwurah, in a post shared by Monkeypaw Productions and Vidiots celebrating the 30th anniversary of Welcome II the Terrordome, talks about being a fan of Gen Z; New York, London and LA Gen Z. “Not Alabama” Gen Z. I get what she meant, but that Alabama shade kinda stuck with me. There’s a persistent assumption that young people in the South are less curious, less progressive, less politically engaged, or less interested in challenging film. Alabama is shorthand for the kind of young person we assume isn’t worth programming for. We shouldn’t confuse lack of access with lack of interest! Gen Z Southerners have been given fewer opportunities to encounter a wider range of work, and living in a conservative state doesn’t tell you what the young people who live there believe, or care about. Southern young people deserve to have their curiosity taken seriously, too! Give them the opportunity to encounter something different and let them decide what they think! Anyway, y’all send that 30th anniversary print down here. I know some Alabama kids I’d like to show it to! by @hauntsville
Reel South Cinema’s first week out in the world included a familiar stop: Sidewalk Film Festival! Sidewalk is one of my favorite weeks of the year. Chappell Roan said, “I’m your favorite artist’s favorite artist.” Well, Sidewalk is your favorite filmmaker’s favorite film festival. There’s something so special about the community they’ve built and how many filmmakers genuinely love being there! After years of working with festivals from a few different sides, I’ve watched the festival landscape change quite a bit, and this year, it feels like something is shifting. I spent a lot of the weekend talking with filmmakers, especially younger filmmakers, about what I’m seeing from the programming side, hearing what they’re experiencing on theirs, and sharing some of what I’ve learned along the way. I also left thinking just as much about who I wasn’t seeing enough of. Even in a festival community as welcoming as Sidewalk, there’s still so much room for more femme and queer filmmakers (especially in genre). That’s one of the reasons Reel South Cinema exists in the first place, and I want us to keep listening closely to Southern filmmakers and figuring out how we can actually be useful to them as the landscape changes! Thank you @sidewalkfilm for another great year! Had to rep Dolly. Had to match the new @sidewalkfilm sign! You know I love to talk View from the VIP lounge @hauntsville programming reminder 💚 Love my Sidewalk community. Belcourt friend at Sidewalk! You can sit with us. Volunteering is a great way to earn perks like passes! Sign up next year! Yes, it lights up. by @hauntsville
𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵. After years of programming, screenings, festivals, and community events, and months of research, saving, paperwork, filings, applications, and planning to make the nonprofit possible, I can finally share what I’ve been building toward... 𝙍𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝘾𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙢𝙖 𝙞𝙨 𝙤𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙖 501(𝙘)(3) 𝙣𝙤𝙣𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙞𝙩 𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙯𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙢𝙖.𝙤𝙧𝙜 𝙞𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚! Based in Huntsville, Reel South Cinema is a nonprofit film arts organization expanding access to independent, repertory, genre, and regional cinema across North Alabama and the South. The mission has been shaped by my experiences as a woman working in film and by years of advocating for femme, queer, and other underrepresented artists. Those experiences have made me increasingly passionate about who gets supported, whose work reaches a screen, and what kind of film culture we choose to build locally. At some point, I knew Hauntsville couldn’t be the end of it. All of that work eventually led me to Reel South Cinema! Reel South Cinema will support more screenings and curated programming, Southern stories and storytellers, femme and queer voices in film, publications and conversations around cinema, community partnerships, and greater access to film throughout our region.
