A summer in full swing!šŸŒļøā€ā™€ļø by @hayliest_
Call me a filmmaker! Since January, Iā€™ve been creating a 25-minute documentary telling Sadie Goldinā€™s story. On the surface, Sadie is a North Texas swimmer dedicated to serving the community. Beneath that, however, she courageously navigates chronic illness, mental health struggles and past trauma daily. From Sadie, we learn to lead with compassion, and also that true healing is often messy and anything but linear. This is a project that challenged me intellectually, creatively and journalistically. It is different than anything Iā€™ve ever done before, as I produced, directed, wrote, shot and edited the film in its entirety. I wouldnā€™t trade the 5 AM wake-up calls for swim practices or late nights hunched over my laptop for anything, however, as it taught me what it really means to treat someoneā€™s story with the utmost care. To @sadie.goldin - sharing your testimony has been the honor of a lifetime. Thank you for trusting me with such vulnerable moments, and I know your story will resonate with so many people. To the Goldin family-the familial bond you have is special. Thanks for inviting me into your lives, and I hope I did the connection you have with one another justice. To @michaella_sr26 and Brittany Roth-this film wouldnā€™t have been the same without both of your perspectives. You both encapsulated not only what Sadie was like as a person and athlete, but also what it meant to be her best friend and coach respectively. For that, I am eternally grateful. To @tommyyarrish - thank you for supporting me throughout this entire process. You sat through 200 versions of this film with a smile on your face, and it wouldnā€™t have been possible without your encouragement. There isnā€™t a bigger thank you than to @unt.mayborn, a program that has changed my life exponentially in a year. I am proud to attend a university that not only encourages the best version of myself but pushes me to do things I wouldā€™ve never thought possible. Iā€™m so excited to see what comes of this film in the near future, and more importantly, I hope to give a voice to more extraordinary people like Sadie through what I do. ā€œPull of the Water: The Sadie Goldin Storyā€ is a wrap! by @hayliest_
